Eczema - help please

Hi all, posting here as I’m at my wits end and looking for some views. DD (5 months) has had patches of eczema on her body for the past couple of months. This pretty much clears up with epaderm ointment/cream but the eczema on her chin and cheeks isn’t shifting and is getting worse. epaderm seems to make it worse/more inflamed on her face even though it works on her body.

We have used hydrocortisone 1% on her neck area when it was sore/weepy and this did clear it up but it comes back after a couple of days. GP has said it’s fine to use the hydrocortisone on her face to clear it however I’m nervous about using it on her cheeks.

I’ve tried:
Aveeno - made it worse
Child’s Farm - calmed it down a bit but didn’t clear it up
La Roche posay lipikar balm - fine on her body but did nothing for her face - £25 I’ll never see again.

I’ve tried more natural creams but they do nothing.

The GP wasn’t concerned as she isn’t scratching and said I was being unrealistic wanting it to clear up completely and it won’t clear up with moisturiser alone. GP advised us to keep persevering with the epaderm on her face but a pharmacist I’ve spoken to advised not to use it on her face as as it’s paraffin based it could block her pores and make it worse. I’m confused now!

thanks all.

My daughter uses avene from boots which is a face cream recommended by her dermatologist. She is also allergic to aveeno.
Unfortunately with eczema it is trial and error to find creams that suit.

To be fair I would use the hydrocortisone for a couple of days - it may improve things quickly

Thanks both. I might try the hydrocortisone for a couple of days, I don’t want to do her skin more damage by persevering with moisturisers that aren’t really doing anything!

I’ve used steroid cream on my DC’s faces, it was prescribed by their dermatologist but it was needed to get it under control.

I feel like I could have wrote the original post. Exact same situation with my daughter. Epaderm worked on body but making face flare, private GP prescribed daktacort, which I think is hydrocortisone mixed with an anti fungal agent and the difference in her skin is amazing, turned out she had quite a significant fungal infection on her face.

Hope you get sorted, awful to see them this way 😰

Thank you, I’m glad your daughter’s skin is clearing up. I’ve been applying some hydrocortisone tentatively, I think ill just do 2-3 days as I am nervous despite GP saying it’s fine to use on the face.
if it doesn’t go away I’ll go to the GP again about possible fungal infection, thanks for the tip X
