9 month old bumped head onto wooden base of sofa

Hello there. My 9 month old son has this new thing where he likes to bob his head back and forth and he somehow pushed his way through the cushions and on the top of the sofa which is the base , is wooden and hes bumped his head. Now it was a pretty hard and he screamed the place down. Now I managed cold compress for maybe less than 2 mins as he hated it. Hes had some calpol too. There's no bruise right now but a big red mark. So my questions are :
Do I need to take him to hospital straight away or do I need to keep an eye on his symptoms ?
Is he allowed to sleep after a bump? He skipped a nap today already so.
Is he going to be okay ?
I can post a picture of the mark if that helps.

Thank You

Keep an eye on him for any changes to his behaviour but I wouldn't worry too much about just a red mark. Advice is to let them sleep as normal.

If you notice anything concerning, such as confusion or irritability I'd give 111 a call or pop him to a&e due to his age but it doesn't sound like there's anything to worry about right now.

Thank you so much , I feel awful. I'm FTM if you can't tell. I'll attach the photo.

Just keep an eye on him and don't let him sleep for 2 hours after the bump. If he seems dizzy call 111 straight away. But looking at the picture I'd say he probably be ok. My little one was cruising at 8 months and the amount of bruises on his face and head used to make me worry what people would think 🤣 they're pretty sturdy at 9 months so hopefully he's all good 😊

Don't let him sleep you say ? The post above tagged an nhs page and it says he could sleep ?

He's a nightmare , he's caught me a few times bobbing his head and everything

He skipped a nap today as we are having our bathroom ceiling fixed so there's a lot of noise going on. Every bump I feel worse and worse honestly.

@RoseDeer Don't feel awful, these things unfortunately happen! When PFB DD was about the same age she pulled herself up, fell and smacked her head on the edge of a shelf. The bump was the size of an egg and I rang 111 in tears and then rushed her to a&e in the midst of lockdown 1. She had a whale of a time playing in a&e with absolutely nothing wrong with her and I've been a lot better at staying calm since 🤣

Do you think I should be taking him to hospital then ?

I would say he definitely doesn't need hospital. It's just a small bump to the head, and you already have the nhs advice.

Sorry I'm such an anxious person and I worry. He's my first baby

@RoseDeer No sorry, I was the original poster saying that there's nothing to worry about, just saying that we've all had panicky moments as FTMs and in time you learn to remain a bit calmer and rational.

Princesspollyyy · 11/04/2024 20:24

@RoseDeer

Please don't be sorry, I was exactly like you with my first baby, in fact I remember going to the walk in centre when my baby had hit his head but looking back now I could have just monitored him.

Hope your lovely baby is ok now xx
