Has anything worked for you recently?

I like NitNot. Well, I don't like it, but it seems to work! Treat twice about a week apart. And then comb weekly to check so you can treat early if they catch them again. They seem to be permanently going round my yr4 and yr2 daughters' classes.

twoastars · 31/03/2024 20:51

I read a post recently that said using a hairdryer regularly was something that put an end to them.

The lice programme was the only thing that worked when we were stuck in that never ending cycle. Its a 3 week programme. We used cheap conditioner and a nitty gritty comb.

Thorough wet combing (nitty gritty and lots of conditioner) a few days apart.

shockeditellyou · 31/03/2024 20:56

You need a nitty gritty comb and hair straighteners, you need to comb according to the life cycle of the louse. Think it’s once every 3 days for a month. Hair straighteners fry the little bastards, and combing gets rid of most of them. Shampoos are a bit useless.

Borisisafecklesstoad · 31/03/2024 20:59

Nitty gritty comb and prefer hedrin. Also shoving a "we are treating again" note on class whatsapp. Ive even got to the point of reminding people on same whatsapp that they will get treatment for free if required from pharmacy. We had six months of this, it only stopped because of COVID!!!

AlpineMuesli · 31/03/2024 21:13

Sorry forgot to say we use NittyGritty religiously.

Nitwits! Can get from amazon. It gets the eggs too and worked for us after months of not being able to get rid and trying different stuff (alongside constant combing- which didnt work)

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 31/03/2024 21:17

My DC are older now, but I never used anything but repeated nit combing with conditioner (for everyone, including DH!) Once we got rid of them, we used tea tree shampoo and conditioner, and my daughter's hair was religiously French plaited for school. Every single day. We never got them again.

AlpineMuesli · 01/04/2024 09:14

I do think I need to cut my hair. It’s only just over should length but there’s so much of it, combing takes an entire evening. This has been going on for weeks now.

Do school girls get it more than boys?

This always worked for us when we were on the headlice phase. A good hot blast through the roots. And for me, though not DC, followed up with straighteners.

Maybe not suitable for v young kids though.

MarieJG87 · 01/04/2024 09:45

You just need to go through the hair with a nit comb for 10 days straight. Due to there breading cycle. If you do it for 10 days straight they should be gone

AlpineMuesli · 12/06/2024 22:03

Tried everything. They’re back.
Sitting with nitwits in hair again rn.
I did hear on Harry Hill’s podcast that life prefer kids (sweet blood) and don’t like men (testosterone).

We had 2 and a half months of recurring nits this time last year. I am absolutely certain that it was my youngests best friend constantly reinfecting her.

In the end I ordered some nitwits from Amazon and treated everyone the minute they got home on the last day of term to enjoy a nit free summer. Luckily we haven’t had a return since.

Hugsbunny · 12/06/2024 23:01

Tea tree shampoo and conditioner. Only every had them once when trying some others despite DDs friends having them a lot.

RoobarbAndMustard · 13/06/2024 00:02

Nitty Gritty comb and conditioner. Do it twice a week.
Some parents ignore head lice and don't treat their DC so other kids keep catching them. It's very annoying.

KittensSchmittens · 13/06/2024 07:50

I combed the whole family every other day for a week, then 2x a week for another 2 weeks. Seemed to work.
