My 12 year old daughter ran out in front of a car on Monday and has broken her femur, tibia and fibula. She had surgery are today we have just come home she has been stuck on the sofa ever since not wanting to move or do anything. She had 2 pins inserted into her thigh bone and has a cast from her toes to just below her hip. she is feeling miserable.

Is there any tips or tricks we can do to make her more comfortable at home! She is battered and bruised from everything and is hardly eating too even her favourites. My heart is breaking watching her so uncomfortable. The journey home for her too was so uncomfortable.

I also feel for the young driver that hit her. My husband watched the CCTV they are by no way at fault! (the ambulance and police wanted to see) We have been in contact with her too shes a neighbour's granddaughter. It's horrible to say but my daughter is completely at fault! She ran out our driveway after the football. My husband and I feel so guilty and so worried about her and sick with worry for our daughter.

Thank you all I really am so list! I feel like a deer in headlights at the moment! She is gone to bed now she has drunk half of her bottle since dinner and had a wee before bed! She is shattered from it all. I have tried to prop her on her side ish in bed to take the pressure off her bum it's really hurting before bed. I guess it's been in the same position for a few hours. I have promised her a manicure and pedicure tomorrow if she is feeling up to it. I also said we will wash her tomorrow too if she feels up to it! She loves her 30 min long baths every night but I am sure we can find away to have them again without getting the cast wet!

Aww bless her! I have had the fair share of sporting injuries and each take their mental toll! Try and keep to her routine if you can but I can imagine it will be hard with a full leg cast! but maybe as other said a good pedicure tomorrow and nice hair and body wish to try and help. I did pop my daughter in the bath last time she broke her leg but she did have half leg cast and leave her soak for a little while! She did need help with washing though. I hope she managed to have a good sleep tonight in her own bed!

Thank you she slept most of the night she is keen for my sister and niece to come round later and spend some time with her! Nanny and Granda are also going to come. They are brining a cushion to see if that will help with her bum pain. I think she is also getting the flu and all her joints hurt and she is a bit snotty.

Try and get some Arnica cream. It will help the bruising come out quicker so it’s not so long lasting pain on hips/ back

Thank you I will try the cream!

Your poor daughter, my dsis is in a similar position atm.

Things she has found helpful:
Bed table
Grabber
Wheelchair with leg rest (just going out for 10 mins a day has helped her mentally)
Shower stool
Waterproof leg bag
Private occupational therapist home visit, really helped get her set up properly and taught her how to manage stairs etc.
Mobile hairdresser
Backrest cushion that kind of wraps around her
Weight lifting gloves

She found watching tips on how to do things on YouTube helpful and a bit further down the line, seated aerobics videos.

She had zero appetite at first and was incredibly tired, a few weeks on she's feeling much better.

This cushion has really helped and in the car for lying across the back seat.

If you can get hold of one of those pregnancy pillows, I would use that to help her turn to one side, then the other, at least every 4 hours (preferably every 2 hours).

It may help to get a rubber ring to sit on rather than a cushion, to take the pressure off her tailbone, depending on how high her cast comes up her thigh.

Maybe some audio books would help to pass the time, and take care of yourself too, I’m sure you must be exhausted between caring for your daughter and processing what happened and what could have. x

Thank you she has been really sleepy over the last day or two she constantly falls asleep watching TV but the pain much better than it has been! Today she is a bit better and more awake, my sister and her kids are here today playing board games with her and Xbox to keep her company
