Bad case of impetigo or something else?

My 2 year old has been given oral antibiotics for the below and been advised its impetigo.
I can't help but feel worried incase it's something worse?.

It actually looks worse in person.
My partner seems to think its fine and to leave it a few days but I'm panicking and not sure if to return to the drs sooner rather than later.
Shes been on the antibiotics 24 hours now and we have been told to keep it uncovered and dry.
Is there anything else I can do?.
She has had a slight temperature of 37.7 this afternoon if it gets worse I will call 111

Any advice welcome

Aw, poor little mite! That's the worst case of impetigo I've ever seen, if that's what it is. It looks really sore! Did they give you any dressings to put on it? It's highly contagious, so be careful with hygiene and contact with yourselves and any other DC you have.

Hi sorry she's suffering. I can't say about the temperature as I don't think my daughter had a temp, but she had bulbous impetigo and it looked identical to this. It was visible for ages too I'm afraid. She said it didn't bother her too much though ( she was about 5 at the time)

Gettingonabitnow · 27/03/2024 18:30

OMG. Maximum of another 24 hours and if it’s not improving get her seen, same if her temp goes higher. The poor little thing I hope she improves x

@LipstickLil No they didint give me any dressings as they said It needed to dry out.
It's in an awkward place for her aswell.
Yes I think shes caught it off my partner!
I'm annoyed at him for not getting himself checked out to realise it was contagious. His is much milder of course.

I'm currently trying to keep her naked, it's sore bless so she won't touch it at least

@Justhereforaibu1 Thank you I know its awful but gives me a little reassurance that it does look like impetigo

@Gettingonabitnow yes I'm thinking of trying to get her into the Drs tomorrow either way. I don't wanna come across as the panicking mum but I'd rather be safe than sorry, even if it's just a second opinion and some advice.
The paperwork advised 48hours to give the antibiotics time to work

How is your little one now, hope she's on the mend x

@Justhereforaibu1 her impetigo healed really well thank you.
I was so worried but the antibiotics worked.
Unfortunately she ended up with croup straight after and now has something else. It's never ending! X

Hi OP,
I have just saw your thread for the first time and I'm so pleased to hear your daughter healed well.

Just because of the spottiness I wanted to add that scabies can cause a spotty rash which can allow impetigo to take hold - just something to bear in mind - but hopefully it is cleared up now and not an issue.

Whataretalkingabout · 10/04/2024 11:15

Hello OP , I am so glad that your DD 's impetigo cleared up with the antibiotics. Poor thing. I am surprised noone encouraged you to use an antibiotic cream locally in conjunction with the oral antibiotic for comfort.
Your DH could have cleared his up with just antibiotic cream.

Impetigo, if you read about it on Google is caused by two very nasty batercia: staphylococcus and streptococcus. Both are highly contagious and easily avoided with careful hygiene and frequent handwashing.

Tell your DH he needs to be more careful with his hygiene for the whole family's sake.
