Should I be worried?

18 month old had a full blood count yesterday at 5pm (GP wanted to check for anaemia after his 2nd bout of tonsillitis) Surgery called today to say GP will phone at 8am on Thursday to discuss the results and to arrange a time for me to bring him in that day. No further details given. It seems very quick to be called and to get an appointment but could it still be something relatively harmless like low iron? Would a GP want to see a little one that quickly for something minor?

It’s unlikely that the results are even back yet. If it was urgent they wouldn’t make you wait until Thursday and yes the doctor would want to see you and your little one if the results showed low iron etc. Your child is young and has been unwell. The doctor probably also wants to check him to make sure he is ok following the tonsillitis.

I think the results are back as the receptionist said the GP wanted to discuss them. They’re unlikely to make two appointments when they don’t have the results and everything could be fine. It’s reassuring they would want to see him for low iron though, thank you

they would absolutely want to see him for low iron. Anything sinister you’d have been sent to an and e immediately. I work in paediatrics. Try not to get carried away with worry x

Thank you- I am feeling more rational now! If it was anything serious they wouldn’t wait two days

they absolutely wouldn’t. I work within paediatric haematology and oncology and I know these patients who are seriously unwell are seen immediately. Please try not to worry x

If they're letting you wait until Thursday it's not urgent. With ds when we had an urgent call they phoned and wanted him in immediately - and that wasn't even that bad a result compared to what we thought it could be.

Thank you for the reassuring message. I’m feeling far less worried now. It was an initial panic but thinking logically I can see it won’t be anything to worry about

hello @LittleSparklyStar LittleSparklyStar!
Sorry to barge in but there is a chat going on sg like “High B12 for my child “and I was just wondering if you could have a look because there are lots of worried mum wondering why child has high B12 but all other results ok on blood test.

I hope @LottieandLisa that your child is all ok too
