Elevated Inflammatory Markers - Lump in neck

Hi All,

My baby girl (now almost 12 months old) has had a small lump in her neck since she was 5 months old. We have been to the GP a few times since and they did it was probably just a swollen lymph node due to back to back colds over the winter months.

Last week they referred us for a blood test and my Doctor left me a voicemail today saying there was nothing to worry about but could I call back. When I did so I couldn’t speak with the doctor but the receptionist told me that one of her inflammatory markers was slightly elevated and could I please re-book her for a blood test in 8 weeks time and a follow up with the doctor for a week after.
No I know I should be focusing on the positives such as the fact that the doctor told me it was nothing to worry about and if it was serious I’m sure that a) I wouldn’t have been speaking to the receptionist about it and b) They would call us back in sooner than 8 weeks.
She also has a runny nose and cough at the moment, which probably didn’t help..

However as a first time mum I am understandably worried and not sure how I’m going to relax for the next 8 weeks!

Does anyone have any experience with elevated markers in infants?

Markers can be elevated for all sorts of reasons. An injury, exercise, not always sickness. I do have experience with lymph nodes in the neck being up. One of mine had more than one her entire childhood and it never came to anything at all. I hope all is well for your daughter but maybe this can reassure you a little that it can be nothing.

@ForestBather Thank you so much for your reply, it is reassuring to know that they can be there for a long time and mount to nothing.
I feel less worried today, I think I just got myself in a bit of a state. I should follow my own advice and not Google these things, but it’s easier said than done when it comes to children! Xx
