My child drank that at once from his straw cup when he was at school and in one go. I am panicking at water intoxication. Should I be worried and when do I offer water next. He usually drink 1l a day 😭🥲

400mls? I doubt it, I’m not an expert but I think you would have to drink several litres in a very short space of time for this to happen.
Most people don’t keep track how many mls of water their children drink per day, is there a reason you are so worried about water?

Pastaleftover · 20/03/2024 16:01

Because i read article stating if you drink at once a large amount can cause water intoxication and he said he finished all his bottle at once in snack time. Just really worried

He will be absolutely fine.

welshcakes6 · 20/03/2024 16:03

That's not much more than a can of pop is it ?

tealandteal · 20/03/2024 16:04

400ml is not a large amount of water even for a child. If he was drinking 400ml per hour or something I would be more concerned.

readytoexplode24 · 20/03/2024 16:05

He's 5 years old why are you treating him like a baby? He's just clearly thirsty!

InTheRainOnATrain · 20/03/2024 16:05

Have they never had an apple juice or orangina or something in a restaurant and downed it in one? Sure he’ll be fine! I just wouldn’t offer water until the next meal on the assumption he’s unlikely to be thirsty again for a while.

HurricanesHardlyHeverHappen · 20/03/2024 16:05

400mls is just one bottle of water.

ApolloandDaphne · 20/03/2024 16:05

In 'ye olden days' before water bottles I used to come home from school and gulp down glass after glass of water. I never came to any harm. I don't think 400ml
Is a huge amount. That's less than a normal bottle of water you can buy.

ToddlerMumma · 20/03/2024 16:05

My 4 & 6 yr old often guzzle half of their 1ltr bottles in one go after running around. I think you'd have to drink litres & litres to get ill effects. Is there a reason you're so concerned? Does he seem unwell?

Dartmoorcheffy · 20/03/2024 16:07

It's less than a pint. Its not going to harm him in the slightest.

TokyoSushi · 20/03/2024 16:09

Nothing will happen.

morellamalessdrama · 20/03/2024 16:09

He'll be fine, why are you monitoring his water consumption so closely?

Caravaggiouch · 20/03/2024 16:10

Do you suffer from anxiety? Drinking this amount of water isn’t something that would normally be a concern at all.

43ontherocksporfavor · 20/03/2024 16:11

400ml? What are you worrying about? I work in primary, chn drink lots! It’s mild today and they run around like lunatics at break and come in sweating and thirsty.

400mls is not a large amount.

WeeOrcadian · 20/03/2024 16:26

I say this kindly, you're overreacting.

That won't hurt him, he was clearly thirsty

43ontherocksporfavor · 20/03/2024 17:00

Are you sure you mean 400ml ?

Itscatsallthewaydown · 20/03/2024 17:01

You’re overreacting.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 20/03/2024 17:02

400ml is not a lot of water. It’s less than a pint and only slightly more than a can of pop.

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 20/03/2024 17:03

Think of it in terms of other things. It's a bit more than a can of Coke, and less than a pint of milk. Would you be shitting yourself if he drank most of a pint of milk?

TMess · 20/03/2024 17:12

That’s less than one water bottle. You’d have to drink 1000s of ml in a short time and without replacing electrolytes to be concerned. Why are you monitoring his water intake so closely though? Do you have a bit of health anxiety? I couldn’t begin to tell you how much water my dc drank today or any other day.

Justcallmebebes · 20/03/2024 17:20

I'm confused. 400ml is a normal cup of water. If 400ml is correct, I can't see the problem

LimeMoose · 20/03/2024 17:21

400ml is fine, water inxotication is with a far greater amount than that, stop worrying and let him drink if he wants to now.

Pastaleftover · 20/03/2024 17:22

hahahahhahha thank you all. Yes I do suffer from anxiety since he developed chronic constipation and he is a movicol child so I am always worried.

I feel good now. Thank you all. I spoke to him about drinking it all at once cannot be good. and now I think I shouldn’t have because I don’t want him to stop drinking ❤️
