In hospital with 6 week old - suspected meningitis

Been in since Sunday and had tests done for meningitis (bloods and lumbar puncture). Urine sample came back as clear so that's one less thing to worry about thankfully.

Baby is 6 weeks old and despite a fever on Sunday, he is feeding like normal, plenty of wet/dirty nappies and alert. Holding onto these positives ❤️

His two brothers at home are with daddy and we don't have family support to be together unless they are at nursery. 3 year old goes 5 times a week (school nursery) and our almost 2 year old goes twice a week, although in for an extra day this week given the circumstances.

I miss them dearly. Saw my 3 year old briefly outside the ward yesterday which was just lovely.

Fingers crossed and prayers for good news - we will receive the full report at 10pm but more than likely not until tomorrow with the consultant 🙏🏼

I hope everything comes back clear for your little one. My DD had sepsis at 23hrs old and also had the LP to check for meningitis. Its a scary time but your DS is absolutely in the best place.

Are you also able to take care of yourself (eg. shower, food, rest etc)? It seems unimportant in the context of everything that is going on but it will help if you end up with a bit of an extended stay. Flowers

@CrispAppleStrudels Oh I am so sorry to read that, what a scare that would have been. I hope your little one is well and fully recovered 🙏🏼

We've got a really nice room that overlooks the garden and an en-suite so going to try and have a shower tonight! They don't supply food to parents but I've had a few friends pop in with bits and bobs so that's been a huge help.

I think yesterday was the worst day of it all in terms of emotions... I will swap out with my partner tomorrow maybe and have a night at home with the other two xx

Thank you - we had two weeks in hospital in the end in a mix of NICU and SCBU, but she is an absolutely thriving nearly 3yr old now. We had lots of follow up checks until she was 2yrs to check on her development and then she was formally discharged from outpatients.

Thats great you have a shower room and people bringing you food. Take care of yourself as well as your little one!
