Worth seeing a GP about? (phimosis?)

From what I could find with the help of google, the foreskin should be able to fully go back by about 10, however DS is 12 and is having trouble. Is it worth seeing a GP about, or should I leave it for now?

I would see a GP. Worth asking,
My OH had it an didn't have surgery until in his 30th. He had painful sex only before then and it has affected him greatly.

30s......

Definitely see the GP. DS was younger when he was operated on, it was worthwhile.

Thank you both! Would the GP suggest circumcision do you think?

First step is often steroid cream to try to loosen things up.

Thanks, I’ve just looked it up and it seems less invasive overall which is good. DS is extremely worried about it all

Definitely see the GP. My son had a very bad case from birth - his foreskin would balloon when he peed and we literally had to squeeze it out. He was circumcised as a baby because of it and has no problems now. They said had he been less severe they would have waited and seen him again just before puberty so it sounds like the best time to see someone if I were you. Good luck

I’m glad to hear your DS was sorted at an early age and that he has no problems now, it sounded horrific! DS luckily isn’t that bad. I think I am worrying a bit about circumcision because I know the whole process would stress DS. He hates getting blood tests let alone something like that

My DS had it done when he was 10. Don't delay it. The younger they are, the quicker they recover

On the other hand, my DS went to see a paediatric Dr about this when he was 10/11 and he straight away referred him for surgery (we had tried the steroid cream on a few occasions which did work but then it always reverted back when we stopped using it). We actually decided to delay the surgery as DS really wasn't keen and I'm glad we did - he's now 15 and has no problems whatsoever (as far as he tells me anyway!) Going through puberty sorted it out for him.

I didn’t realise even using the cream could make it revert!? This does give me hope though, I don’t really know how bad it is and obviously if the gp says surgery is best then that’s what we’ll do but for his worry I’m hoping it’ll be a similar case to your DS

By revert back I meant it went back to being tight again as soon as we stopped using it. Sorry, didn't make that very clear in my post!

Ooh I see that makes sense thanks for clarifying!

DS has this and is undergoing treatment with cream. Does his willy balloon at all? Is it red or sore? Has he started going through puberty?

Skiphopbump · 22/03/2024 23:46

My DS had recurrent balanitis so there was no point in trying the steroid cream. The surgeon did offer it to us but felt that it wouldn’t help.

AshenTree · 05/04/2024 21:20

So update, been the the GP and given steroid cream. Question, is it ok to be applied after a shower/bath?
