My daughter has come home from school complaint on bottom / back passage pain. She feels a sharp type pain when trying to pass wind / sitting down / trying to poo. Obviously called the GP but they cant help have to wait till 6pm to call out of hours doctor. Recently found out to have Crohn's but cant seem to see this being a symptom. Any help xx

Trapped gas/constipation.

May be worse at the time of her period.

Drink more water, eat more fibre, exercise well.
(Unless this is contrary to advice given for crons)

Thank you I will try give them a call. We are in Ireland (ROI)

Could be a sign endometriosis. Does she have any other issues?

titchy · 15/03/2024 15:28

Ah, javelin arse. My sympathies.

I get this, not due to gas or constipation. I call it "bum stabs", I would love to know what causes it?

spiderlight · 15/03/2024 15:34

Possibly tenesmus, if she has IBD. Possibly proctalgia fulgax, which is the official name for javelin arse. Poor lass - I hope it eases, whatever it is.

Theres the dsm points.
Used to have to hit 5, now, only 2.

But someone who is say, 7 and 9, I'd aot different from someone who hits 5 points. Doesn't mean they aren't still narcissists.

Bolloks wrong thread xD

She does have IBD. She’s only recently stated her periods just finished her 3rd one. We think delayed due to IBD. Is it normally uncomfortable to sit too while the pain is there? Shes currently laying on the sofa on her side. I was thinking maybe a bath would help. I’ve given her parachute too.

she’s been uncomfortable all day but felt to embarrassed to tell the school so she could come home

If it's what l think it is sitting down on the toilet for a while helped ease my symptons, it was so painful l thought l was going to pass out. Like a sharp stabbing pain in back passage.

HanHoggy · 16/03/2024 06:31

Thank you it went away with paracetamol and laying down for awhile. GP said to call back today if it came back but was very unhelpful

I have ulcerative colitis and get pain at the tip of my tailbone if I sit in a position that puts weight on it.

Mischance · 18/03/2024 20:53

If she has Crohn's then it is likely to be to do with that.

Or she may have rectal spasm/cramp - the way to treat that is to lie her on her back and get her to roll her knees up to her chest and stay like that for a while. It should relieve it after about 10 minutes. And she will fart.
