Cows milk intolerance?

I have 6 week old twins and I'm sure one of them has a cows milk intolerance? She's always been unsettled right from birth, i havs them on Aptamil, she was projectile vomiting so we thought reflux, so I have changed her milk to Aptamil anti reflux.. everything was better for a week or so now she's so unsettled again, constipated, has a red spotty rash on her face, a constantly stuffy nose , cries out whilst feeding, stomach gurgles whilst having a bottle.... I've rang gp but they won't give her an appointment as she has her 6 week check next week anyway so he's said to discuss then but she is suffering and so are we 😵‍💫 I'm wondering is it worth buying the lactose free Aptamil to try? If so how long does it take to settle things down... or should I just carry on and wait until her check. We are tired, she is tired , we are so lucky her twin is so easy going and settled because the poor thing is always having to be laid on her play mat or on her cushion because all things are focused on the unsettled twin. help 🤣 tia x

Lactose intolerance and cows milk protein intolerance are two different things. Lactose free milk will still contain cows milk protein. I would wait for medical advice since you have an appointment soon.

Lactose intolerance it quite rare in babies it's much more likely to be an allergy or intolerance to the cows milk proteins. Intolerances are more often called delayed allergies although our paediatrician does still use intolerance.

It still could be the reflux as thickening the milk is just the first step of treatment and they might benefit from something like omperazole.

If you wanted to try a dairy free formulas you can buy them but they are expensive about £20 a tin for extensively hydrolysed and £20 for a small tin of an amino acid formula. The formulas come in two categories. The extensively hydrolysed are still dairy based the but dairy proteins are partially broken down and this is sufficient for some babies to not recognise them as dairy. Other babies still see it as dairy and need a completely dairy free formula. These contain all the individual components of dairy as separate ingredients. The extensively hydrolysed are things like actimel pepti and nutramigen. The amino acid formulas are neocate, alfamino and puramino
