We have really limited NHS dental services where we live. My boy is 14 and needs braces. He is registered to a practice 90mins drive away and was on a waiting list for nearly a year to get there. He is registered with an NHS dentist spitting distance from our home.

The orthodontist suggested some 'new' ideas for his braces. I was happy to follow his lead- after all, he is the expert- and so was my boy. He wrote his instructions to our dentist who called us in for an appointment. Dentist is refusing to carry out the instructions because it's all aesthetic and has no medical benefit. He wants to do the traditional route.

Both dentist and orthodontist are refusing to budge so we are at a standstill. Should I put my boy back in wait for NHS orthodontist or try to find a private dentist (and the £400 it costs) who is willing to do the extraction?

What are the instructions the orthodontist is suggesting?

Is the orthodontist private? There is a threshold for nhs funded treatment which it sounds as if this is not meeting,

My daughter has a cavity if it gets bigger the private dentist would do a cap/crown as she is under 5 the NHS dentist will just wait until it's so bad that it needs removing.

Private and NHS dentists work with different criteria unfortunately. It will cost us £200 a tooth for the caps. She has 1 cavity already and 2 showing signs of damage that will make them susceptible to cavities so potentially a £600 bill. She and acid damage from severe silent reflux
