Hello. DS14 is generally healthy kid. Has been getting more frequent infection’s recently, colds, sore throat, mouth ulcers etc. He went to the drs two weeks ago with abdominal pain. Dr organised blood tests as she said he looked a little yellow (?)

Results came back and appointment made for two weeks time. Can anyone read these results for me and put my mind at rest.

No googling has been done and I’m not a worrier at all, but I do like to be prepared and two weeks is quite a wait! 😆

Many thanks

Liver function tests are normal,
The C-reactive protein and high white cell count indicate some sort of infection

Your doctor has ordered these tests because she thought your DS looked jaundiced (yellow). Abdominal pain can also be a symptom of jaundice. But the results don’t indicate jaundice - his bilirubin and liver function are normal.

Everything looks fine apart from iron and white blood cells. Iron is borderline low, he would benefit from supplements. Low iron can cause some of the other results to be abnormal. White blood cells can also be elevated because there’s inflammation or autoimmune issues, or because the body is fighting an infection. Even fighting off a cold can raise those numbers.

I don’t see any tests for other vitamin levels. Often if iron is low then other vitamins are low as well. They need to look for a cause for the low iron - my first suggestion would be coeliac disease, which is where your body responds badly to gluten and you have to eat gluten free food. That would explain the high white blood cells and the abdominal pain too. The doctor can do a blood test for coeliac disease, if they don’t suggest it I would ask for it.
