Sustained (2 months) low grade fever in 3yo?

Hi All!

Has anyone experienced this with their kiddos?
We've been to our GP, waiting for bloods appointment. But they say she checks out fine in every other way and I'm just a bit worried.

She's eating and running about ... a little below what she usually is energy-wise, and sometimes she'll be on the verge of falling asleep for no reason (dropped naps a long while ago now).

Low grade for us is 37.5 up to 38.1 ... the lowest I've measured over the last few months has been 37.3 but that's rare. And her baseline temp is usually 36.6 degrees C.

Any experiences would be welcome!

Have you tried a different thermometer?

Have you tried a different thermometer?

Thanks ALLthecheeses, that was one of the first things I did at the start. I have an aural and a head thermometer. Her temp has peaked and troughed with different short term respiratory infections - along with her big brothers - over those few months, but its just never gone back to it's baseline temp when she "recovers".

Hi @MamaJypama did you ever get to the bottom of this? My son's baseline temp during the day is 37.7-37.9. It only goes down at night and sometimes his 38+ start running around which is concerning but GP said to put the thermometer away as he seems fine with no other symptoms.

Hi @Aklein38 not yet I’m afraid. She’s had 2x rounds of bloods, indicating low lymphocytes, which GP & haematology are attributing to post viral illness/recovery. But she’s still running a low grade fever for 4 months now.

Adding to this is he appearance of itching and what LOOKS like eczema (she’s. Never had skin related issues before).

Still stepping through it here. We have a consultant appointment with general Paeds next week as even her GP agrees something is not right.

im sorry to hear your experiencing the same. It’s a tricky and frustrating one!

@MamaJypama oh no! I'm so sorry to hear its been going on for 4 months! That's so long! Does she seem happy and normal in herself as my son does which is why they said if it was something serious he would be unwell in himself and deteriorate quickly.

Does her temp go down overnight? Usually when my son is asleep his temp goes down to 36.8 which is the lowest it ever gets and never that low in the day which is also why GP thinks he's just over heating in the day and that's normal for him as usually if something is wrong they have a temperature at night as that is when their immune system is most active.

I hope all goes well with paeds next week!

I really hope that’s the case for us too @Aklein38 thank you for sharing, that’s given me some peace of mind. Will see what the Paediatrician says next week. Fingers crossed we get some answers one way or the other 🤞🏻
