6 month old baby unwell

Hi all, looking for some advice / reassurance. My 6mo baby started feeling unwell on Sunday. Crying, floppy, really sleepy, etc. Took him to A&E, his temperature raised to almost 40C. They gave him Calpol & ibuprofen, took his vitals (iblood, urine) - all clear, no signs of ear infection or bronchitis either. Doc said probably viral and advised to keep giving him Calpol & ibuprofen. He was better yesterday during the day, a lot more cheerful and energetic. But in the evening it went downhill again, crying (he’s not a crying baby at all), won’t take his bottle, very sleepy. He’s now been asleep for nearly 14 hours. He hasn’t got temperature at the moment - but I keep giving him medication as advised.

Any advice / experience much appreciated. I’m very worried, it’s the first time he’s been ill.

I’d take him back to A&E - he can get dehydrated if he’s not having his milk.

Sorry to hear your baby is poorly, it's such a worry. Can you get an urgent GP appointment this am? Or if you are worried go back to a and e. It's always better to be cautious with little ones - they take the same view in hospital.

I'd get him seen again

He’s now awake and seems better. Smiling and looking around. He took his bottle and his temp is normal (36.7C). Last Calpol was 6pm last night, and it hasn’t raised since then to above 37.5C. Wondering if a viral infection can be without any other symptoms? Had anyone experienced anything similar?

Going to A&E was horrendous, 14 hours under blazing lights waiting for tests/results/doctors. He was crying non stop, couldn’t sleep at all. So it’d be the last resort.

If you’re worried take him to the gp today. You should be able to get an appointment. Ours is normally very good and fit babies and small children in, regardless of how busy they are.

Agree if you're worried take him to the GP. They should see your baby today as he's under 2 years old. Sometimes all we can do is wait for their bodies to fight it off but I would still get them checked to be sure they aren't dehydrated. Hope all is better soon, it's horrible when they're poorly x
