Laxido and 11 year old

My 11yo DS has always had issues with constipation. Recently he has had a stomach ache on and off, describing it as a stabbing pain. The GP is doing some tests but has also prescribed him laxido. He was on 4 sachets, and has done a poo but he has also soiled today from overflow. I'm really worried about this happening at school, and other children noticing. I'm just looking for others experiences really, and wondering whether others kept their DC off school, and how long for? As I'm worried about him missing school too.

If you're doing a disimpaction regime, a lot of children need time off school. Have you found www.eric.org.uk yet?

Thanks for the reply. I haven't been told specifically to do a disimpaction regime, but just to start with 2 sachets a day and that I can add 2 more a day up to 8 as needed. With the aim that he goes every day, without tummy pain after going.

I'll check out the link, thanks.

My daughter suffers with constipation and sometimes doesnt make it to the loo. We keep her off school when the pain is terrible, she wears period shorts too (not that will help your son) Its terrible

Yes you need to do disimpaction and keep him off school for the process. I would advise Eric website and also movicol mummies on Facebook- lots of helpful advice there

Do I need to do disimpaction even if he has gone yesterday and today, but still has a tummy ache?

He's also waiting for blood test results to rule out anything else, and we need to do a stool sample, but he can only seem to go in the evenings.

I've requested to join movicol mummies, thanks.

Sorry to hear your DD suffers too, @SportyMumOf2. It is terrible

It really is! I guess the main question is how much did he go today and yesterday? You could always feel his belly when he is laying flat and see if it's soft. I can normally feel when my daughter is very compacted

@notworthanything How is he doing? I have dropped you a message with all the little tips and tricks I picked up with my daughter hope it helps x

Hi, thanks for checking in. I was replying to you here last night and my battery died just as I was getting to the end 🙄

I kept him off today in the end, which was good as we finally got the stool sample (it had to be done and dropped off before 12pm any day, but it was hard to get him to go before school). He hasn't seemed to have much overflow which is good, and he's gone twice properly today. I'm not sure what that means for the laxido though, do I continue with 4 sachets or go down to 3 tomorrow? He said no pain in his belly after second bowel movement today.

Thanks for the replies and advice, it's hard to discuss it in real life as of course he doesn't want anyone to know. He said today he feels like "we've done too much" and "taken it too far" by getting him a toilet pass at school. I think it's just embarrassment though, although he doesn't have to use it if he doesn't need to.
