Toddler normal temperature - 21 month old always running warm

My DS has had several illnesses recently and really suffered especially after he got the flu. His temperature lasted 2 weeks so since, I have been paranoid and I'm literally checking his temperature about 40 times a day!

I'm finding that his normal temp is 37.5 but regularly goes up to 37.7/37.8 after running around with his brother (he is quite active). Tonight it even went to 38 at one point but then when I retook the reading it dropped down to 37.7. I find the ear thermometer with him very erratic.

I'm now a ball of nerves as doctors have told me that elevated temperature is over 37.5 and a fever is over 38. So does that mean my son constantly has a an elevated temperature and this needs to be investigated further? He is super happy and you wouldn't know without checking his temperature.

I know these temperatures are high for children but is it normal for a toddler especially an active one?

Anyone else's toddlers run hot too?

We don’t count it as a temperature until it reaches 38 or over. So anything below 38 is a normal temperature. It’s hard to get an accurate reading in a wriggly toddler so I would say if you have no other concerns about him, he’s eating and drinking and active as usual, passing urine etc then put the thermometer down and stop worrying!

Thank you that's very reassuring to know others also only worry if its 38+. I did go back to see the GP today because I was confused by the advice I was given earlier about 37.5+ being a temp and he was having 37.7 temps but he said the same thing which is the put the thermometer down unless he seems unwell and 38+ is when they would start to worry. Thank you, I've put the thermometer away finally!
