This is a random one, but I’m wondering if anybody can help me with the situation we’re dealing with at the moment. My son is 19 months old and he has always had febrile seizures when he gets a high temperature. We know how to deal with this. Over the past few months he has been having loads more high temperatures than I believe to be normal (3-4 days out of every 2 weeks) and it doesn’t seem that these high temperatures have a reason. For example previously he would have a high temperature and then he would get tonsillitis or there would be a reason like another type of illness that was causing the high temperature, my son has always been a child that gets very severe high temperatures. For example it’s quite regular that he’ll get a temperature of 40° or over and previously we have taken him hospital for this. This is becoming more and more frequent and he’s recently started having vacant episodes, which I believe to be absence seizures. His eyes roll back and he goes grey and quivering and then passes out. However what is really worrying me is the amount of temperatures that he’s getting and it seems like there’s no cause he’s not unwell. He eats fine. He sleeps fine and I can’t tell what reason there is for these temperatures. I’m taking him to the doctors again today and I think I’m going to ask for a blood test to see if we can rule out to see if there’s anything else causing it. These temperatures range from 38° to the highest one which was 40.8°. I understand that febrile seizures are quite normal and that he will grow out of them, but what is concerning me is the amount of temperatures that we’re getting again and again for no reason that I can tell and that’s causing him to have for example in the past six weeks five episodes of absence seizures, and one full-blown febrile seizure. I appreciate you guys aren’t doctors and I’m taking him this afternoon yet again to ask for more investigations but I’m wondering if anyone has a clue might be causing this. It truly is ruling our lives now and makes me so sad seeing him like this all the time.
