9 month old seems to be in agony at night

What would you do in this situation?

My baby has CMPA I part pump/ part formula feed her. She has an allergy milk with broken down milk proteins. At about 7 month old her sleep became terrible (waking up to 20x a night) I think this may have been related to me increasing her formula - I don’t produce very much breast milk. But also could have been linked to teeth, development, regression etc.

her sleep slightly improved recently but now had taken a dramatic shift and she’s waking up SCREAMING for hours of the night. Last night we got about 2/3 hours sleep in total.

She will wriggle, kick, squirm around screaming with tears. I find it impossible to re settle her or even hold her she’s thrashing about so much. It’s literally like she’s being tortured. We do give her far more formula than breast but but I’m still unsure if it’s actually related. She’s due to have a blood test for her dairy allergy on Friday but I called the drs today to see if they could swap her onto a different milk to cancel out whether or not it’s the formula but she refused and said she needs the blood test before they do anything.

In the day she’s generally okay. She is quite clingy and can get upset easily but mostly a happy baby. She’s naturally a very independent, happy, placid baby but there has been a noticeable shift lately I’d say.

Her poo is okay, sometimes mucusy sometimes soft, sometimes hard. Nothing crazy alarming going on here.

I feel like I’m going crazy, desperately trying to find out the issue. The screams she makes at night literally send alarm bells off in my head like something is gravely wrong. Any advice welcome. I’m pretty lost as to where to go from here.

I’m so sorry you are experiencing this. It is desperately hard and I have experienced something similar with my baby. We suspected CMPA for some time but this was never proven, and symptoms have settled a lot in the last month or so. Like you, I was desperate and spent a lot of time researching. I know now that CMPA can be a cause of silent reflux so given that your daughter has confirmed CMPA, I thought I’d comment to share my experience.
I suspected for some time that my little girl might have silent reflux. Her symptoms were mainly: lots of back arching during feeds and at night, severe hiccups, frequent night waking, short daytime naps and generally being very unsettled. If you do a quick search for silent refllux online, does it sound like it could be what your daughter is experiencing? We were prescribed two medicines by the GP but only really saw an improvement with time. We also saw a lactation consultant who diagnosed a tongue tie (at seven months!) and a cranial osteopath.
I completely empathise with you as it was a really difficult time for us, trying to work out what might be wrong and trying not to get frantic with worry. You are doing amazingly and things will get better, although I know that is very hard to hear when you are going through it.
