Chickenpox vaccine

Does anyone have any idea when a UK catch up programme might be put in place, if the government follows the JCVI’s recommendation to make it a standard childhood vaccination? Is there precedence - HPV maybe?

Im looking in to getting my kids vaccinated, and while I can find the money, it’s not easy and I know I’ll be kicking myself if it turns out they could have had it on the NHS a couple of months later! But if it’s likely to be at least 6-12 months away then that’s ok.

And if you have clicked to say how you wouldn’t get the chickenpox vaccination, it’s a free country but I will ignore your post.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm considering a vaccine for my 5 yo asd child. My guess is it could be a while as since the announcement of a recommendation for younger children we haven't heard anymore? Could be totally wrong but that's my guess

I really wouldn't hold your breath. Even if they decide to implement the vaccine, there's no guarantee that they will implement a catch up programme.
If you want your children vaccinated I would just get on and do it if you can afford it.

As per earlier post I wouldnt hold your breath on this on. The rollout would take time and money which the NHS is struggling with.

If they did offer it I would suspect it would be done on a vulnerability basis as opposed to general age.

Both mine and have been vaccinated and neither suffered any ill effects or side affects whatsoever. £150 (or £300) well spent IMO. I have seen children suffer with even mild cases.

Well worth it I think, both of my children are vaccinated (youngest is due second dose soon). All of my eldest class had chicken pox except her, some had it v badly and needed 2 weeks off nursery/work.
It isn't clear if and when it would be implemented and knew I'd regret not getting it if I waited and my youngest got chicken pox.
