My daughter is coming Upto 5 months, she needs to have an MRI and they are talking about sedating her. I know that has its risks but can anyone tell me personal experiences to stop me freaking out?! Please x

My DD was sedated for an MRI when she was a little older, (12 months). It was fine.

She’ll be fine. The best thing you can do is be calm for her, because if you’re panicking it transfers to them and she’ll be upset.

The drs do this every day, they know what they’re doing. Hope it all goes well for her.

My daughter had one when she was a little older, maybe 12 months. She completely zonked out and we had to go up to a ward after until she came round. Once awake she had a jacket potato left over from the children staying in hospital and we went home with no ill effects. The only slightly stressful part was when they orally gave her the sedation as she didn’t want it but honestly it was perfectly fine.

Good to hear! The sedation she is having has to be given through the back passage which is not nice either. Fingers crossed! Xx

If she needs the MRI then sedation is the lesser of two evils given the challenges of being in an MRI. I work in the field and they are loud, can make people claustrophobic and you have to lie perfectly still for good images. It can be difficult for some adults never mind a baby. The noise alone would be distressing.

She had it done yesterday, she was so tired she went to sleep and stayed asleep. She had sedation but took 40 mins for MRI to see her so by this time was being to wear off - however I managed to get her back to sleep and she was in there for 20 mins and stayed asleep!

That's good. I hope the results are ok x
