What is wrong with my almost 3 year old?

My son in 3 in April. He's a very active talkative little another almost 3 year old. On Thursday he woke up and just didn't want to get out of bed, he told me he was dizzy and got back in bed, he had a high temp on and off since Thursday.
I called the doctors Thursday who throught he might have a cold on his hip, about an hour after speaking with his doctor he done 2 poos and seemed a little more active so I thought maybe he had a bad tummy, for the rest of the day he just wanted to stay in bed, which we did as we thought he needed his rest. He hardly ate at all during the day but was drinking.
Yesterday he woke up as normal came downstairs was playing eating a little ect... 6 o'clock lastnight he got upset and told me his head was hurting, I cuddled him he fell asleep on my lap in the living room with the TV on which is completely out of character for him. I out him in my bed and I stayed with him he woke up at 12 o'clock upset had some calpol went back to sleep, woke again 2 more times during the night just upset he had a cuddle and settled back off. When we woke up for the day this morning he didn't, he just wanted me to hold him so he could sleep, he's very very lathargic, I picked him up straight and he was sick over me.
So this morning we took him to hospital, up the hospital he woke up at 13:00 from 6ish lastnight, he's been in and out of sleep all day when they where doing their checks and stuff.
they done all the checks they said where nessasary for meningitis, sepsis and viral infection, he has none of the above. They have sent us home and said "he's just under the weather" give him calpol and ibuprofen.
He's just so lathargic, it's really really scaring me, he hasn't got a runny nose or any other signs of an illness. I asked the doctor at the hospital should be worried about him being so tired and lathargic and she said "no, we just want to rest when we are poorly" but I don't understand how he's under the weather. I'm so stressed out about him. If he hasn't improved by tomorrow I will be taking him back up the hospital.

Symptoms

  • dizziness
  • sick
  • not weeing alot
  • very lathargic
  • sleeping alot
  • high temperature on and off

My partner (his dad) suffers with vertigo and think he way possibly have it also.

It is normal for them to be sleepy when they are ill and just want to lie on the sofa and watch TV, or cuddle up with you for the whole day.

Do you mean something more than this? I do tend to think if you're the mum and you think something is wrong then go back in because they do say your instinct is worth a lot, but it also sounds like my DC when they have a bad cold. My youngest always gets an upset tummy when he's poorly.

Sleeping a lot is really normal for a child with what sounds like a viral infection. Try and get liquids into him though.

Ok thank you, I'm glad to know the sleep is normal when he's poorly before he's never slept like this it's just got me really concerned

Me and my 3 yo have just had a viral illness she had it the week before me and had a fever and was quiet and cuddly. Only obvious viral symptoms but all she wanted to do was watch 2 films on repeat for 5 days.
The following week I had 4 days off work. I didn't feel ill but standing up to go to the toilet consumed all of my energy for the day. I didn't move from the sofa and couldn't handle watching anything more interactive than day time telly. I completely got that she could only manage something predictable too!
A friend had the same and one day it took her 2h to summon the energy to get out of bed.
I had some dizziness but I'm a dizzy sort of person. Have they checked for labyrinthitis given the dizziness. I had this once and couldn't stand up without feeling dizzy and falling over. I have never felt so unwell in my life and had a resting heart beat of 160! I got some medication from the GP and it helped immensely

My 2.5 yo was like this and she ended up very dehydrated and with low sugar. She was admitted to hospital overnight, but the only treatment they gave her were fluids, calpol and sugary foods.

I was really glad she was admitted and I’d push for that if you can. But if not, what they got us to do was to wake her every 2 hs and make her drink a glass of full sugar squash. Whenever she could, she ate sugary jelly.

Not standard parenting advice, but it got her out of the cycle of being too sick and sleepy to eat and drink, which in turn made her more sick and sleepy.

What do you mean by 'a cold on his hip'?
