Pre and post ductal saturation at birth

Hi, hoping someone can help. My son is 2 and under paediatrics for speech delay, hearing loss, etc. We are just looking through all the birth notes and it says he was blue when born for the first 10 minutes and didn’t cry for the first few minutes but that his birth was normal.

My query though is on pre and post ductal SATS. His pre ductal reading says >09% . This doesn’t seem right from the info I can see on line? His post ductal says 98%. Can anyone shed any light on this and how the readings work and what 09% would mean?

our concern is he has been deprived of oxygen and this has led to issues that are now on going.

Thank you

I don't think it's possible for post-ductal sats to be truly higher than the pre-ductal ones. Most likely this is just a mistype and the intention was to write >90% - easily done on electronic systems. The sats readings was not be reliable if below about 50% so a ready of 09% isn't very plausible (and would probably be written as just 9%).

It sounds as if going through the notes at your next paediatrician appointment would be helpful for you.

Thanks @Unseenentity yeah I agree about the paediatrician appt, they take a long time to come round though….

I wondered if it was a mistype too. If it’s not possible for the pre to be higher than the post generally speaking though it would still be even if it was meant to be 90% I guess?

He was blue at birth, I know most are, and it’s noted he struggled with his respiratory function for the first 5 minutes or so too. Just trying to piece it all together as we do as parents. Thanks again.
