Wedding on Saturday- can anything be done about facial bruising?

first of all- I’m going to ask MN to zap this thread after a while because I don’t necessarily want ways to hide injuries on kids appearing on the internet forever

this morning my toddler took a swan dive from the sofa and landed on what I can only describe as her snout. Blood everywhere, swollen lips. Awful.

she was bright and alert immediately. My brother is a GP and came round to have a look (they live round the corner)- no broken nose or anything concerning. he advised me to get an appointment to check her teeth which I am going to later as she wouldn’t let him take a good look in her mouth.

anyway - she’s playing happily and eating biscuits but bruises are starting to bloom on her face and her lip is busted. It looks awful and I could sob for the poor little mite. To make matters worse she is a flower girl on Saturday. My friend is absolutely fine, but I am gutted for her photos.

my brother said some people swear by arnica but it doesn’t work, and there’s nothing that can be done apart from ibuprofen for swelling and cold compresses.

i’m so worried about all the questions :(

just wondering if anyone had any more ideas for helping her with her recovery.

That's all you can do really. Apart from looking into getting concealer to cover it

MassiveOvaryaction · 08/02/2024 19:37

Arnica cream has worked to reduce (not remove completely) bruising for me before.

Kids get bruises but @10ThousandSpoons says you could try concealer if it's still really bad.

I wouldn’t use concealer. It will likely look worse and potentially get on her clothing.
You could discreetly say to the photographer that if they can use any editing tools to remove some of the bruising that would be great and you would be pleased if they could/would edit the photos.

Ionlylikedityesterday · 08/02/2024 19:43

But don’t worry about the questions. Children have accidents and falls. So do adults for that matter.

Marblessolveeverything · 08/02/2024 20:32

Don't worry about photos editing can sort.

Topical arnica can work. Homeopathic doesn’t.

I always put butter on DD’s bumps and bruises.

Photoshop? I don’t think anyone is going to have any other solutions your GP brother isn’t aware of!

My DD fell and whacked her head the day before she was a flower girl when she was 4. She had a lovely reddish purple right in the middle of her forehead for the wedding. We didn’t really do anything other than the usual cold compresses and a dollop of calpol. The photographs are fine, editing tools are magic!
