Laryngomalacia and Supraglottoplasty surgery

Can anyone give me their real life experiences of this surgery? My DC is 4.5 months old and had a second appointment with ENT this morning relating to having Laryngomalacia and struggling with feeding and at times, skipped breaths.

Today the consultant has decided she wants to do an urgent Supraglottoplasty - ideally in the next few weeks.
She said it was a fairly common procedure that she performs routinely and didn’t seem too concerned but wasn’t particularly reassuring either - she just said we’d be in hospital 48 hours all being well and DC may go to ICU initially after surgery.

I should have asked about how long recovery is, when will DC be able to bottle feed etc but my head was in a bit of a spin after she said “urgent.”
I will ask the questions when we have a pre-op but as we don’t know when that will be, any experiences shared would be appreciated.

Hi @Whyismycatanasshat
We are facing a similar route with our 9 week old, would you be able to share your experience and how recovery went?
Thank you x

@Lot01 Sorry I missed this, my DC had surgery 5 days after I posted this; the worst part of it all was keeping them nil-by-mouth for an extra 4 hours as there was an emergency surgery before ours.
ICU was on stand by but wasn’t needed and we were discharged 36 hours after surgery.
Recovery took about 4 weeks - DC initially had less appetite than usual; for the full four weeks they were very spluttery with feeds and sounded hoarse for about 10 days.

7 months on and the change is noticeable, DC is still a “loud breather” at times but the snoring and skipped breaths has reduced a heck of a lot.
We’ll see how we fair through cold season but our consultant felt that DC was at risk of getting severe chest infections etc which was why the surgery was urgent.
