Does anybody know anything about low cortisol

I have asked this elsewhere but this is probably the best section to ask in.

DC had unrelated blood tests a few months ago and they picked up low cortisol. This was an afternoon blood test and they said the level was 66.

They followed up with a morning test a month later and said the level was 97.

We are waiting for a referral to endocrinology but I'm wondering how concerned I should be.
I have consulted Dr Google but still very unsure.
Are these levels worryingly low or within the "normal" range of low?

I keep seeing things about Addisons disease. Whilst DC is often very tired, has nausea, and is very thirsty, there has been no loss of appetite or weight loss and DC is always hungry.

Were these done always through GP or some through hospital? I would check in with whoever requested that they have been properly looked at. Although random low results are really common in otherwise well children, many places would try and get a stimulation test done urgently (basically an injection that turns the cortisol-switch on, then blood tests repeated over the next hour) rather than have a delay in diagnosis for Addison's (even though it's rare).

Sorry I can’t specifically help but interested in the answers you get on here re low cortisol. My son had the simulation test (due to long term steroid use) last week with the following results: 175 pre test reading (9.45am) and then 341 30 min post synacthen. Although I haven’t had full feedback there doesn't seem to be any immediate concern with these levels. Dr google isn’t being particularly helpful though as it implies they are low (but not drastically) but nothing more than that.

They were both done in hospital. I think the first was probably only lower because it was in the afternoon, they suggested we follow up with a morning test which they've said is still low.

We're waiting for endocrinology referral to another hospital and are apparently on a list there but have been told there is a long waiting list. We have a follow up to explain things further with the first hospital in the summer if endocrinology don't have an appointment by then. I understand the NHS is very stretched at the moment, so it is worrying to get all answers from Google in the meantime.

Yes, mine is on preventer inhalers and I did ask the GP if it could be because of that but they said they wouldn't expect it with a light dose of inhaled steroids (50-100 twice a day) and it's more often caused by much higher doses or in people that take it in other ways.

From Google I have seen some say that when theirs were only slightly low it required monitoring but no treatment. Though what that "slightly low" is I don't know.

What type of steroid does your DC take?

They have been on prednisilone for 4 years (due to arthritis). Only on 2mg every other day now - so the test was done to see if it’s safe to wean off them completely.

From googling and the chat with GP, apparently it is more likely for people who take it in tablet form like yours does rather than just asthma inhalers, so I do hope those results are something good for you rather than an extra thing to worry about.
I was just saying to somebody that for people who are taking tablet form it sounds difficult as it must be like trying to catch their own tail if a much needed drug causes something else that then needs yet another drug to fix!

Please can I ask what the outcome was, I am also curious about low morning cortisol and if this always points to an adrenal problem or if some people just have low levels naturally
