4 yo really red bum rash, not itchy

So i noticed at bath time my 4 yo son has a really red rash covering a large round circular area from his anus and into perineal area too. He says it doesn't itch, and only seemed to cause discomfort when i applied some nappy cream. He hasnt been itching, hasnt had diarrhoea or anything like that. And although he is still learning to wipe properly, he does only "go" once a day usually at home where I can help wipe so hes usually clean etc. Google suggests perianal strep? He does have a heavy cold but no other symptoms or rash anywhere else. Im confident its not worms, but it is really bright red, very defined in shape ( not blotchy or spread out). Anyone had similar? Should i wait it out and see how he goes or get GP? Google suggests if strep he may need ABs.

For anyone else experiencing similar, it was strep. DS has ABs for two week!

Thanks for updating!
Out of curiosity - did your son complain when going to the toilet? I think my 3yo son might have the same, however it's only come to our attention as our newborn has bad nappy rash that won't clear and I was actually hospitalised last week with a strep A infection. I've had multiple over the last year and figured my 3yo was patient zero thanks to nursery but I had absolutely no idea it could affect this area! Google points me to strep A as they both have a red rash around their anus (we've thought - supported by medical professionals - that our 3yo was going through typical constipation due to being nervous about going for a poo however this would make so much more sense!).

Phoning Dr tomorrow for swabs, just curious in the meantime :)

No he didn't which i did think odd at the time aa it looked very sore! Hope it clears up soon, my middle son had it about a month later and the doctor misdiagnosed it as a fungal infection so it got worse, so do insist on a swab. Hope clears up soon!

Can I ask what the rash looked like? Raised bumps or just general redness?

DD has a mystery raised temperature. Only other symptom is a bright red bottom. I'd assumed she'd sat on a toilet that had very recently been cleaned and that it was chemical irritation.

We've had a bad experience with untreated Strep A relatively recently so I'm a bit jumpy about it.

almost a perfect circle and bright red, no bumps for him , not even itchy. My youngest had it the sake to start, but as it worsened the skin started to peel a bit, very sore.

I was about to say try metanium cream when I read the title but obvs wouldn’t work for strep. I didn’t know you could get strep there, thought it was just your throat! 🫣
