Lymph node on knee cap?

My 10 year old said he could feel a lump on his knee- had a feel and it feels like a lymph node on the knee cap below the skin. I can move it and it’s pea-sized so I’m assuming that’s what it is, but I didn’t know you get lymph nodes on a knee cap?! Just wondering if I’m possibly underreacting (a big change for me!) and it does need looked at?

Hi op, do you mean behind his knee? There is one there but not on the actual knee cap? Are you sure it’s not a bit of grit that has been embedded under his skin?

Juliesdagger · 27/01/2024 19:34

Definitely the front!
it’s too far under the skin surface to be grit and there’s no cut or graze to his knee and it feels like a pea that’s moveable and slightly squishy 🤷‍♀️

Could it be a ganglion ? Usually on wrists but I had one on the upper part of my foot ( not ankle).

hmmmmm no idea. I remember my mum had a ganglion on her wrist but I think it was quite hard? This just feels like a squishy lymph node 🤔My quick Google says no lymph nodes exist on knee cap so must be something else🤷‍♀️

No lymph nodes on the kneecap, but could be a simple lipoma if it's firm but squishy and mobile. Or a bit of something like grit that his body has walled off and may pop out in time

Not a lymph node on the kneecap - probably a cyst, especially if it's squishy and mobile.

thank you 😊
do Cysts/ lipoma resolve themselves or is this something I’d need to get checked? sorry if that’s a daft question.

I would get it checked to make sure it is a cyst / lipoma and then it may just be a case of it self resolving 🙂
