My eldest is 5 years old, both me and my mum suffer with weak enamel, my Daughter has been going to the dentist since she was 9 months old.

Today she went, and she needs 2 fillings, Yes I have brushed her teeth twice a day but they think she also has weak enamel.

I feel like I have let her down to need fillings at such a young age.

I know a family whose teeth are so weak they literally become stumps during childhood and even after adult teeth need replacing with dental implants. They are all happy and healthy. You have done nothing wrong, genetics does what it does.

My daughter is 3 and has a cavity in a molar and discoloration of 2 other molars.
Hers is caused by severe reflux. She will need the tooth with the cavity in capped at some point and possibly the other two too
She uses sensodyne pro enamel toothpaste with 1450ppm of fluoride and novamin in. Most of the benefits come from the fluoride but studies have shown the novamin can give a small boost (1-2%). If it was for myself I wouldn't bother but her every little bit can help
She has fluoride treatment every 3 months. Only has water or oat milk to drink ensuring the oat milk is well fortified and no citrus fruits. Limited dried fruits and sweets/chocolate. Not that she ate much previously we still have chocolate from easter left over!

@Superscientist I'm a dentist if your dd has erosive wear be careful with her oat milk too. There has been evidence that there is breakdown of the oat to maltose so I normally recommend trying to keep it to mealtimes and water between meals.

We are aware of this but with 20 food allergies there are very limited ways of getting dairy like food into her diet and calories, fat, calcium and iodine trump teeth! Her diet is a very fine balance and we are getting dentist and dietician input. We also have issues with her not eating for days so not always an option to keeping it with meals! The dentist view is if she is chewing on regurgitated acid which she does diet is going to have a small impact and he general health is more important. She is also under the care of 2 paediatricians as her reflux is so tricky to handle!

@Superscientist I completely understand living with allergic, EoE and ARFID in our family. Pick your battles.
