Should I be concerned re: 7yr old

So my son is 7 years old. In November he had scarlet fever, 3 weeks later he had tonsillitis. He finished antibiotics on the 27th December. Then on the 29th of December he had what can only described as a 48hr virus. No throat issues, but he had a fever and went completely off his food.

He's very fair skinned anyway but looks really pale. I've reassured myself it's not Rheumatic fever but, could he have some sort of post viral syndrome. His teachers have commented that he's very up and down throughout the day (he's awaiting ASD assessment and is usually very lively). Symptoms are:

  • one minute full of beans the next very quiet
  • very pale
  • seems more sensitive to aches and pains
  • complained of headache a couple of times

I've been giving him a multivitamin for the past few weeks to try help his immune system. Should I be concerned. When I saw the GP in December he said he'd refer for bloods. I chased it up yesterday and no referral was made and it wasn't even documented 🙄

My child has been going through the same since before Christmas, tonsillitis, then ear infection now onto another virus/infection, very high temp, aching, no energy and generally looks like sh*t. Very pale, black and red eyes. On second course of antibiotics in a month :(

Oh @Ting20161987 It's horrible isn't it? It completely wipes them out. Hope your little one feels better soon x

It sounds like he’s been through the wringer with bug after bug and his immune system is down. Is he having multivitamins? I would speak with a GP if you are concerned though

Elderberrybabe · 18/01/2024 17:14

Hi @Boatshoes He really hhas been through it. He's having multivitamins (which contain iron). I think I'll do a GP request tomorrow. He's not ill enough to keep off school as its none specific. But, then I feel awful for sending him in. I guess my mind automatically goes to worst case scenarios and I stat panicking about much more serious illnesses.

Bless him, yes I would also want my DC checked as, although it can take a while for children to overcome illnesses, it’s the peace of mind knowing that it’s all nothing to worry about. I hope he feels better soon

Did you contact the GP OP?

Definitely best to be cautious and if you feel like your DS isn't right and your instinct is to be concerned then make sure you get medical attention.

On a similar sort of timeline my DC had invasive Strep A following an initial Strep A infection. She was very unwell with very high temperatures but even so had periods of seeming 'ok' and playing happily etc.

@INeedNewShoes I had to do an online contact request 🙄 haven't heard anything yet. So, I'm hoping they'll contact me on Monday.

Thank you @Boatshoes 😊

I know infections and viruses can take a long time to recover from so I'm fully expecting to be told that. He's a little brighter today and I think we'll have a lazy weekend.
