Worms! First time

So my DD 4 years old has worms. About an hour after I’d put her to bed last night she woke up saying her bum hurt. So I had a look and to my horror saw about 6 worms crawling out of her. I cleaned her up, put knickers and fresh pyjamas on her and she went back to sleep.

i drove to a 24hr pharmacy got the treatment, and woke both the kids up for them to take it. Myself and DH took it too.

this morning as soon as they woke up I carefully took their pyjamas off and they went straight in the shower, fresh underwear on. All pyjamas, towels and bedding straight in the wash at 60 degrees.

do I really have to do all this washing everyday for 2 weeks!? (As suggested by a friend) RIP my washing machine haha!

any other tips welcome! Thank you x

Just burn your house down and start out all over again 🤣

the first time they got them I hoovered every day and wiped every service they touched and generally was up till 10pm at night cleaning. Don’t wash the sheets every day - just twice a week. The second, an extremely busy time for me, I got a cleaning service to come in and clean everything, then I cleaned it the second time we gave the meds and just gave them an extra dose of the meds for good measure. ( 7 days after the second dose) They were easier to get rid of than head lice!

😮 please tell me you’re joking! lol.
cleaning all their toys etc is almost impossible

My daughter and her friends were constantly passing worms back and forth between each other for a couple of years at that age 😣 My son however never got them.
I think the most important thing is trying to up her (and whole families) hand washing hygiene. Everyone keeps their own towel to themselves which gets changed twice a week.
I think it's an unfortunate but common childhood thing. I certainly wouldn't be pulling all nighter deep cleaning! You have got the meds asap which is great.

Oh my point is two major cleans worked fine for us the second time! I was just so horrified.

I went crazy the first time, also up late cleaning into the evenings. But then I got a bit blasé as it wasn't sustainable, and we still got rid of them fine.

As long as your DC haven't been running around the house without pants on, I'd only focus your efforts on bedsheets and bathroom cleaning (and make sure they wash their hands more). With the bedsheets I did everyday for 3 days, by this point most adult worms should have died from Ovex so I just did weekly after that (as long as they wear pants and PJs in bed- change those everyday at first too then every few days). Quick bleach wipe of all bathroom surfaces in the evening.

I then opted for a 3rd Ovex dose after 4 weeks, in case they did get reinfected from toys or something in the first few days.

Good luck!

Thanks all!
I’ve been cleaning today bleaching all handles, light switches, the banisters etc. dettol sprayed all the soft toys on their beds etc.

should I stop them sharing a bath?
and do you all think we need to take the treatment again in 2 weeks ?

Yes I stopped them sharing a bath as I really didn't want my toddler to get them, the thought of changing wormy nappies made me feel ill!

I would definitely take the treatment again in 2 weeks, Ovex can only kill adult worms and there will be eggs so if you don't take it again you'll be back to square one.

Definitely take the treatment in two weeks again! That’s the most important thing to do. It only kills the worms but you will have eggs yet to hatch.

As long as you all take the meds again 10 days later (to kill the new hatchlings) you don't need to stress about crazy cleaning.

DS1 was riddled with worms throughout primary school (chronic nose picker). DS2 only got them once. Hand washing is crucial.
