Chicken pox in siblings

My son has full blown chicken pox with a mix of boils and spots starting to scab over, but my daughter has not yet shown signs of any spots at all, is it okay to send her to nursery if she continues to not develop any whilst keeping him off?

The incubation period is up to three weeks - that's a long time to keep her off.

I would be ultra observant of her mood though and keep her off if she's in any way off colour or irritable as that often happens before the spots come out.

Yes it will be a while. 14 days often gets mentioned and that was the exact time between DC1 and DC2's first spot. So be extra vigilant at the 2 week mark for a while

Thankyou yeah phoned the nursery in advance and they said it was okay for her to go! My poor son is in such a state its unbelievable though every inch of him is covered and now he has a skin infection from scratching them

Our toddler got it exactly 14 days after his sister’s first spots so ixx xxx would just be wary around then and watch for her being under the weather.

My DS got it exactly 2 weeks after his sister and way worse (although he handled it with far less drama 🙄). Both needed to be seen at OOH clinics due to where the spots were but recovered fine.

I still sent him in until he started showing signs though. They both had massive naps the day before IIRC which I didn't think anything of the first time but knew what to look for the second time around.

DD's spots arrived precisely 2 weeks after DS's first one. DS' started the day after the Easter holidays, he was off for 10 days.

Two days after he finally went back to preschool, I noticed a spot on DD's leg and she was off school for 10 days. It was a very long month! DS wasn't too badly affected but DD was very itchy.

Hope your DS feels better soon and your DD doesn't suffer too badly.

Okay thankyou this is interesting they both slept until 8 am the other day which is unheard of! My son has had the spots for just over a week now, daughter still no sign but could be still to come! Wondering whether it would be worth getting her the vaccine?
