Is this worms, surely not again?

Hi,

my DD has now been infected for what is the 3rd time but really I don’t think she has ever been rid of them. This has been ongoing since October, 3 ovex treatments. 1x 5ml then 5ml 2 weeks later to my DD and rest of family. This didn’t seem to clear- back to GP and told it was roundworm. 5ml, 2x daily for 3 days. Week later, still signs of the same bits in her poo. Returned to GP a week later and same intense ovex treatment prescribed and now being referred to children’s hospital as no signs of clearing up. Tonight, 1 week after second intense treatment- we have this floating in her pee, stuck to her poo. This is what has been diagnosed as being worms since the offset.

I have followed every rule. Nail cutting, beds & towels changed. Strict hand washing. The lot.

Strange thing is though, she has never been itching, complained of itching or any symptoms for that matter. The only reason I know they are there is because she now only poops in her potty therefor I can thoroughly check every bowel movement.

a very concerned and exhausted mother of a 3 year old.

If you have actually got one, put it in a small container and ask if it can go to the lab to be looked at under a microscope.

Jessie278 · 04/01/2024 02:53

I'd say so.

Wormworrier · 04/01/2024 18:29

Do you actually see them wriggling?

Croupworry4 · 04/01/2024 20:09

These look very long to be threadworms in my experience. Mine and DC's were much shorter (think they're meant to be 1cm max) and more full white. I saw them wriggle and they looked undoubtedly like worms. If Ovex isnt working and she's also not having symptoms I really wouldn't say threadworms.

Take care, it sounds very stressful but it won't be forever. I'd agree with PP about getting a Sample sent off to make sure they're not treating for the wrong thing

They're very long for threadworms.

Dh2023 · 04/01/2024 21:59

I have never seen them move, have asked GP if I could put a sample in and was told it would be pointless as ovex will have killed them

You said roundworm in your OP. If she has roundworm they wouldn't make her itch. Did you mean roundworm or threadworms? Threadworms are white & shiny. Its hard to see in the photo.

Hellocatshome · 04/01/2024 22:06

That doesn't look like threadworms to me.
