Argh this happened too fast for me to pull her away. Beside myself worrying. Can't really remember but I think it wasn't onto babies mouth. Will it be OK?

What on earth were they thinking. Chances are it'll be fine. Watch out for temperature, obviously any sores, restlessness, unusual crying, more drowsy.

NightmareGirl · 11/12/2023 21:12

Two babies in two hours on here. When will people learn. Get her the antiviral as soon as possible.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/12/2023 21:13

Wash her face with soap and water if you haven't already and call the doctor who can prescribe anti virals. My friends older baby had a horrible reaction. But don't worry you are out of the danger zone of neo natal herpes.

Banish that person from your home. Not because of their herpes but their stupidity.

Lumpyandlimpy · 11/12/2023 21:20

How selfish can some people be? I’d be furious!! Did you say anything to them? I’m sure you’re baby will be absolutely fine but really feel for you being put in this position of worry. I mentioned to a close relative if they could not kiss my newborn due to cold sores and they were very offended. I’d do it again though.

NightmareGirl · 11/12/2023 21:28

So there’s reason to believe if you apply antivirals within short- time frame it can stop it being contracted

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/12/2023 23:19

Yes I would call 111 though before you put cold sore cream in baby just in case

MyChristmasTree · 11/12/2023 23:23

I’d tell them why they wouldn’t be holding my baby again. So so selfish that it was for their enjoyment putting the baby at risk

AdrianeMole · 12/12/2023 11:42

Thanks all. Had a total spiral yesterday but popped to GP today who said they don't give antivirals at this age just keep an eye on baby. Relative is quite elderly so it was just a forgetful moment. The only thing keeping me sane is thinking about how many babies my baby will lick at soft play etc. Its going to be everywhere. But yes don't kiss other people's babies everyone!!

Just to add they would give antivirals in the case of a newborn baby or if there was a breakout so please consult medical advice if this happens to you!

So it can be prescribed to babies to prevent infection, it’s just that your doctor won’t

This. I'd be raging. My DH's Aunt did this to him as a baby he's got cold sores ever since.

AdrianeMole · 12/12/2023 12:27

I am raging but I also need to look after my little girl and she can pick up on anxiety I think

The resources that I can find suggest the risk of complications is high enough to worry for <1 month old but much less of an issue for a child the age of yours. If that's helpful?

AdrianeMole · 12/12/2023 14:07

Yes that is helpful thank you. Albeit I'd rather she does get a normal coldsore virus in this way. I appreciate that she'll have plenty of chances to catch that in life but passing it on via an active outbreak from an adult seems very unfair
