Recurring croup

Just looking for a little advice, over the last 2 and a half months my daughter has had croup 3 times. (Shes 2) The first time she had it, by the time I got a drs appointment it had started to settle down so she wasn’t given anything, she kept her cough and after about 4 weeks it didn’t go so I took her back to the drs and they gave her a salbutamol inhaler to help open her airways. The cough never fully went but about a month ago started to get really bad again so I took her back to the docs where they said her chest is clear but she can clearly hear the barking cough so gave her dexamethasone. The pharmacy had to order it in so it was exactly a month ago today she got her dose of it and within 2-3 days she was cough free. Yesterday she started barking again so we’ve been back at the doctors today and it was the same dr who seen us last time and asked me if I had given her the dose of dexamethasone, I said I had and that the cough went and just came back yesterday, she listened to her back and said her chest is clear so she’s not concerned and she seems okay in herself so won’t check her oxygen levels as she’s sure it’s just viral. Anyway at the perfect moment my daughter had a coughing fit and she said oh okay I will check her oxygen levels, she checked on 4 different fingers and changed the machine as it was reading 93-94% oxygen levels and she said it couldn’t be right because she seems okay. She gave us another prescription of dexamethasone and said she’s reluctant to keep giving her it so if she worsens to get up to out of hours. My question is, could this croup be an indicator of anything else?

Are you using the salbutamol inhaler still?
Id suggest she will probably turn out to have asthma, and need a daily steroid inhaler. Is there asthma in the family?

No she's finished the salbutamol inhaler! And yeah this is what my sister said, I forgot to say in the post but yes asthma is in my family! Were going up to out of hours just now because she's really not breathing well

We got home at 4am😅 Got sent to the children's hospital to see paediatrics because her oxygen was 92%, her heart rate was 175 and she had a temp of 40.2 with calpol and nurofen! Turns out her croups turned into a chest infection and she has tonsillitis☹️ On the mend now though with antibiotics, bless her xx
