Baby eczema! Tried everything and baby so distressed!

Hoping someone might have a new idea here or some help

i have eczema and have since I was small but my baby is 8 months old and has had it since he was 3 months.
We’ve (reluctantly) tried steroid cream about 10 times (fungal and antibiotic types too) and each time it has flared it up worse and even made it flare in OTHER places too so I point blank refuse now.
Baby is so uncomfortable at night time and getting dressed he screams and cries and ITCHES like crazy. He (we) can’t sleep, he won’t eat (all foods not anything particular) because he ends up itching and getting upset, his quality of life is suffering a lot!
The worst is on his cheeks and under his chin and a small patch that weeps on his arm that won’t clear! He scratches like crazy and it’s a losing battle! He has mittens most of the time and is constantly moisturised.
we’re still waiting to be hear from dermatology and allergy clinic. GPs have been USELESS.
We’ve tried probiotics, vitamin D, clay baths, salt baths, ACV baths, every moisturiser, wet wrapping, dry wrapping you name it we’ve probably tried it :(

any advice for night time sleep or anything that worked for your babies eczema??

Cutting out eggs worked for us.

I'm sure you have done this already but you don't mention in your OP.
DS had horrible eczema as a baby. We realised that he was reacting to some fragrances. The only washing liquid that didn't cause a flare up was the fairy non-bio liquid (not gel). Switched to hypoallergenic bath products (and even then only of needed), as he got older sanex zero kids bubbles. Still have to take our own hand wash when we visit places.
When he was little we used emollient cream as a soap.

@clxby Is it worth trying your baby on non-dairy milk? Such as Alpro or Oat Milk? One of my GSs has a dairy intolerance and to begin with his GP prescribed him a non-dairy baby formula. We had to try several varieties before he was settled with it and then the Health Visitor got him seen by a dietician. The dietician started a regime of 'testing' and introducing dairy products and implementing a milk ladder.
We've not had much success with the milk ladder so far and he is 30 months old now but we are learning what he can/cannot tolerate. But there are many foods that will trigger allergies and also many that won't - it's all trial and error. Does your baby have any stress signs - by that I mean across the eyebrows/forehead - is it red/reddish apart from the obvious crying, screaming and discomfort from the eczema? These are worth mentioning to your GP along with a request for a milk prescription and maybe a junior anti-histamine to relieve the itching.
I suffered with eczema as a child and had all the creams, steroids, wearing natural fibres although wool was horrendous for me but it did settle down and now can be controlled with a good moisturising regime.

What tincture did they recommend

Elderflower2016 · 23/01/2024 22:13

We eventually got to nhs dermatologist who said our baby actually had a skin infection so it cleared up v quickly with antibiotics after months and months or awful itching. Coukd you ask your GP to expedite your referral?

Hi, I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I truly feel your pain as a mother of a baby who had severe eczema and has 11 life threatening food allergies. What worked almost immediately for us was something called The Aron Regime. It is a compound cream and you can get it if you book an appointment with a doctor in North London (by Zoom) called Dr Boyden. The Hill Medical centre Northfield House, Northfield Road ,rear of 117 Stamford Hill, London, N16 5RS (020) 8800 5066. It changed our life and we only needed the cream for a few weeks before our baby's eczema was completely under control. Please try it - you will get your life back. Wishing you all the best.

Scratchsleeves were great for night for us when the scratching is always worse.
they are like a wee bolero jacket with silk mittens on the end. Gentler in the skin and can’t be removed .
