Hello :)

My DD is going to have a few teeth extracted and I read that they apply a magic cream to help numb her hand when they place the cannula in - does the magic cream actually work? Just feeling quite nervous, would like to hear other people's experience

It’s Emla cream, and yes, it is a topical anaesthetic cream.

One of my Dc has had numerous surgeries, the staff will be very good, really try and keep your own nervousness under control. It takes seconds to get a cannula in, just chat and be matter of fact.

Yes the cream works, but the key is also distraction. Take a book, put it over the arm they’re using to cannulate so she can’t see and talk to her. Tell stories, point out pictures etc. Good distraction works brilliantly.

Yes, DD had it and didn’t feel the cannula going in whatsoever! Great stuff
