Can a virus trigger milk intolerance?

DS 11 months had an intolerance to cows milk (in food) from 6 months which had pretty much disappeared, I built his tolerance up very slowly and he no longer has hives and a red rash on his face when having milk in food, porridge etc.

However he has a virus atm, cough, cold, green snot etc and all of a sudden he's reacting to milk in his porridge again, hives etc.

Can a virus trigger a milk intolerance suddenly like this?

In my experience, most definitely. Especially if it is a sickness virus too but not limited to.

I think I read somewhere a GP (so not a crank) saying it sometimes happens that people become intolerant of the first thing they eat after a sickness bug.

There's a specific tummy bug that gives a temporary (talking about 6 months to a couple of years sort of temporary) milk allergy.

Yes, you can get second intolerance and stomach bugs when doing the milk ladder can set you back.

It might be worth looking over the milk ladder and working where the current tolerance and building up again. Ours is the north west milk ladder which is very slow!

Yes, one of mine had this happen following a virus. It took about a year to fully resolve.
