She started kindergarten this year and I believe it may be due to this. She was treated for strep and ear infections twice within the past couple months. They assumed strep due to white spots on her tonsils. She's taken Cerdinir both times but it never seemed to clear her tonsil or cough issue. She still has white spots (no sore throat), a lot of mucus production, and a nasty cough likely due to her tonsils.

The doctor now says it's likely viral and needs to clear on it's own. Would a viral infection last this long? Is there a way to confirm this? Are there any natural remedies we can try? Thanks for any input, it's been a very stressful time.

If they thought it was bacterial in the first place I'd expect a different antibiotic or a longer course to have been tried after the first one failed. This is what has happened to me when a sinus infection didn't clear. I The second antibiotic given by a different GP cleared it up quickly. He said the first one wasn't targeted enough. Of course it could be viral, but one type of antibiotic not working doesn't automatically mean it is.

There are some essential oils that are anti-viral, you can research and find which ones are available for you. I dilute very well, usually in honey and it doesn't take much for it to work. I use oregano, basil, and some others mixed in to honey and use a teaspoon amount for an adult. It will stop a cold in its tracks. There's also a fermented garlic honey that works well but it takes awhile to make so the garlic turns sweet. You could also make a throat spray with very diluted essential oils. I think it's important for everyone to do their own research and really understand what they're using, how much to dilute (for LO or anyone with sensitivities that means a lot!), how it works, etc. I started using home remedies like this when my middle youngest was very small, probably 5, and never had to take her to the doctor until she was 13, and that was for an ADHD assessment. I'm not against western medicine at all, but plants work very well too. There was one time my kids caught a virus that had a cough that lasted for months. It was awful, I really hope your DD feels better soon!

Do you know what other antibiotics are available for kids? Apparently she is allergic to amoxicillin because she developed hives a few days after being on it. I've ever only heard of Amoxicillin and Cefdinir being given to young children.

How old is she? What is she eating?
