How to treat nits?

Any top tips for nits treatment. My 7 year old has been complaining of an itchy head so I need to have a thorough look tonight. She has long thick hair. We have a nitbusters comb (looks the same as a nutty gritty) and a bottle of lyclear. I'm going to wash her bedding - do I need to do that every day for a while?

You can use a treatment to kill them in combination with using conditioner and the nit comb. Use the conditioner and comb to see if there are any there first as no point treating if she doesn't have any. You don't need to wash bedding any more than usual. Clean combs/brushes and don't share them

Wash hair, conditioner all over, then comb through thoroughly with the nit comb. Wipe it onto a piece of tissue.. you will be able to see the buggers if they are there. Do again 2 weeks later. No need to wash bedding daily, they can't live off the head. Make sure you do everyone in the household though

Just to be clear, don't rinse the conditioner out before you comb.

They look like little sesame seeds, brownish/translucent

We don’t use treatment.
Slather child’s hair with conditioner. Thoroughly go through with a bit comb and wipe on tissue. Repeat every couple of days til they’ve gone. Repeat after a couple of weeks in case of any missed eggs.
This is also the NHS advice

keep going the way you’re going. The biggest thing is to check weekly after this, unfortunately they can return because there’s tiny eggs that can’t be seen now. To be honest the comb does most of the work, keep throwing out the tissue you clean the comb with. So sorry, they’re a nightmare!

If you are using the conditioner method then only doing twice isn't enough. I'd do every few days for 3 weeks to break the life cycle. In fact even if treating with lyclear I'd still comb a couple of times after the 2nd treatment

Thanks everyone! Spent two hours (very OTT of me!) combing out the little buggers (3 or 4 lice plus eggs). Will probably have another go tomorrow because my husband is a complete germophobe so is freaking out a bit! It's not as bad as threadworms - she's had those 4 times!

Thanks again for all your advice.
