Viral wheeze in 10 month old HELP

Little one has been I'll for 4 days temp up and down and very dry hacking cough. The nurse listened to he's chest today said all clear and the viral wheeze he had developed was nothing to worry about.

She said it's common and if I notice anything more worrying then take him to A&E.

Since coming home it's really worried me after reading up on it online? Is this an emergency? Someone help please as I really don't know what to do :(

He's asleep now and can't hear it so much but when he sits up or is awake moving round it's so obvious. He just woke up to cry and it took him a while to actually get he's cry out but then was fine. He sounds ok whilst sleeping which is strange ? I'm going to be checking on him all night but I don't know if I need to take him somewhere if he's been wheezing ? Nurse was very relaxed about it and told me it's normal. I'm so worried

Is he breathing 'normally' like chest up and down? Or does it look like he's having to make an effort?
It's horrible have been there!

can you look at his chest please? Is he breathing harder?

I would go to A&E myself

Oh god yes, a and e as well!

Did she check his respiratory rate and oxygen levels? A viral induced wheeze is absolutely not nothing and I would have him checked if it’s audible whilst sleeping and awake. I think I would take him to get checked out op, tell them he’d worse and you’d like a review. If he is ok then great, he might need an inhaler (multi dosing) or steroids but I think it would put your mind at ease to have him checked out. Just take him to get checked

Thanks everyone. He strangely wasn't wheezing through the night. Only seems to be when he's up and awake.

I took him to the GP this morning as as soon as he was up this morning it started. She's prescribed a brown inhaler twice a day and blue one up to 8 times a day. Also antibiotics to be on the safe side. Said the nurses should have never sent him away with a wheeze.

@sjk93 did they do his SATs? I didn’t want to say in my OP but astonished he was sent away with a wheeze.

I’m not a medic just speaking from experience, how old is your child? Do you have a plan on how to use the blue inhaler if the wheeze gets bad?

Regarding the brown inhaler it can take some time I think 2 weeks for them to kick in they are a steroid inhaler. You need to go back and review as if it’s a viral wheeze it’s not necessary that your child will always need a steroid inhaler.

@RubySunset82 no they didn't so sats. Brown inhaler morning and night and the blue for up to 8 times a day 4 puffs when required (I think 4 hours apart?)

It was fine first thing this morning and last night but about an hour ago (we've been up since 5) the wheeze appeared again. I gave him 4 puffs and the wheeze was still there for a good half an hour. I called 111 and I have an appointment with a GP within the local hospital this afternoon. The wheeze has now gone again. I don't know if this is normal for it to take over half an hour for the inhaler to kick in?

He's absolutely bonkers since starting these inhalers I can't keep him still is this normal he is shooting around like a nutcase. Last night he didn't sleep until 11 (he's normal bedtime is 6.30-7)

My eldest (age 7) has suffered since 2/3. We have a finger monitor which is a good indicator of when I need to take him in x
