Hey,

Just looking for some advice, or reassurance on where to go from here.

Last week Monday ( so now we are on day 10) my 4 year old come home from pre school unwell High Temp and then vomited twice which then stopped when temp come down, she had a little cough and was refusing to eat. I just assumed that it was a virus.

By Friday last week, the cough sounded horrendous, she has a history of pneumonia, which she was hospitalised with in 2021, as she had parainfluenza too which made her so poorly. With this in mind we went to the GP who said he could hear small crackles which might clear on its own but prescribed amoxicillin for over the weekend if she got worse.

She did. So Saturday we started the amoxicillin. Since then, this cough has just got worse. So I'm like is it more a virus, with the antibiotics not touching it.

Last two nights she's been really wheezy, and she walked upstairs last night and tried to talk to me and was so out of breath she couldn't really speak.

However other than this, there's no normal signs of her struggling to breath, she's playing, no temp but still not eating. Drinking enough but not as much as normal, and a bit more tearful.

My question is... would you be getting her reevaluated? I know the service is so stretched right now with babies and tots with RSV struggling a lot more than us, and don't want to be one of those mums with her otherwise looking ok. But I have this mum gut feeling something is off!! ( if you know you know)

Maybe looking for reassurance I'm not being dramatic and if anyone else has had similar... or even better a medical professional lol

TIA xx

Take her back to the GP today. Don't ever worry about being "one of those mums" and a "stretched service". We all have a right to see a Dr and they would rather you go and all be fine than not go at all.

Her breathing would worry me more than the lack of appetite etc. Has she got an inhaler? Mine has a terrible history of chest infections and her inhaler really gives relief when she struggles. Might be something you could ask about. Hope she's feeling better soon.

Can she talk a normal sentence without having to take an extra breath?

if your concerned always best to get her checked out.

I would get her checked again as the struggle to breathe I would have assumed would have lessened by now. But I'd rather get her rechecked than leave it

She's back into the drs at 12...!

She was give an inhaler in July as a one off which I have given her, and she does get some relief! She just sounds awful.

She's coughed this morning, and choked on mucus, I've patted her back and she's vomited loads of thick green mucus up! Maybe she'll feel better!

Thank you for all your lovely replies!

Ella

COVID? Did you do a test? Sounds just like when my little one had COVID.

EllaF1410 · 17/11/2023 09:15

We Covid tested her at the start and it was negative. Inhaler isn't really doing much to help either. She vomited 4 times yesterday after a coughing fit, and again this morning.

Dr said chest sound clear yesterday but she just sounds awful!

How long do I let this run it course for if they are saying her chest is clear? X
