Potential Dermoid Cyst

Hello 😊

Over the last few months I’ve noticed a hard lump that doesn’t move on my 2 year olds temple. I told myself it was maybe a lymph node but it hasn’t gone. Ive looked back at pictures and it seems to have been noticeable for about a year. She has no symptoms and has never complained about and doesn’t even know when I’m touching it, probably thinking why is this freak playing with my head again 😂

I've sent pictures to her GP and they’ve said they can’t see her for 3 weeks so I’ve managed to book a video call privately via our health insurance.

Im trying my hardest not to think the worst and tell myself it’s just how her skull has formed or potentially a dermoid cyst.

Has anyone else has experience with something similar? 🤞🏻

I told myself it was maybe a lymph node but it hasn’t gone Are there lymph nodes in the forehead???
You are clearly now concerned, but the fact its actually been there year and you are only now worried might be part of the reason the GP also thinks its not urgent. I hope you get answers and its all ok x

My youngest DS has a dermoid type cyst. I noticed it when he was a few days old, and he’s 3 now.

He gets checked at our local hospital every 6 months (it’s right next to his eye and they want to keep tabs on any impact on eyesight), but we were told at our first appointment that they probably wouldn’t operate to take it out until he was 3 or 4 years old at least. Apparently it’s an easier operation to do when they’re a bit bigger.

So, I don’t think you need to worry about waiting for the GP appointment - my experience is that it’s not an urgent or emergency type of problem.

Having said that, we were told if the cyst is ever directly hit such that it kind of pops, we should take him immediately to A&E as an emergency, as there can be serious complications if what’s inside it gets out.

I think it’s called the preauricular node. I only noticed it the last few months I think mostly because her hair has only just grown long enough to be able to put it up, so now I’m in that area more. But yeah now I’ve looked back at old pictures I can see the shadow of it, but I didnt say that in my form to the doctors. I’ve not actually spoken to them yet 😂 I think because I know it’s there now I automatically think worst case scenario x

Ah ok! That’s interesting. I’m ok if it’s a dermoid cyst I’m just panicking at the minute as I actually have no idea what it is, I’m guessing a dermoid cyst. So I overthink it and go to worst case scenario 😂
