Perioral dermatitis toddler - any cure?

Vebar2020 · 03/11/2023 17:03

Hi all, 3year old has been diagnosed with perioral dermatitis - it's been ongoing for months and it looks so sore :(.

Doctor has given us antibiotics (for other health issues/this) and fucidin cream.

ive googled fucudin cream and it says not to use it?! Has anyone got any recommendations on what else we can use?

Doc also mentioned if this doesn't clear it then we will have to look at food triggers....anY experience with this, on what triggers were?

Thanks xx

Hey! So my DD has this - triggered by sunscreen and celery - extract, in sauces etc - no way did I have a child that would willingly eat celery 😂😂Tried a 6 week course of nasty tasting ABs before we knew what the triggers were but it didn’t really speed anything up and obviously had side effects, so now we just settle for avoiding triggers where we can and slathering in zinc and castor oil cream and being patient if we accidentally set it off.
sympathy to you, it’s Horrid thing - the amount of people who thought DD had impetigo and avoided her….

Oh wowww, was the 6 weeks part of the allergy "trial"? Zinc and castor oil are getting added onto the shopping trial. Ugh how awful, your poor DD. No sunscreen...thank god its winter! Our son has albinism..if its sunscreen that triggers him then we're doomed 🫣 x

Toothpaste is a trigger for my dd.

Don't fear the fucidin, but nothing worked for DD2 except weirdly Sainsbury's own brand baby petroleum jelly. Gone in days and never returned. The tub cost about 1.50 and it's still going (she's now 8)

I had it for a while and it was awful. Turns out it was triggered by low iron levels, one they were sorted it cleared up completely and thankfully hasn't returned.

For me it was toothpaste. Doctor suggested I try not using fluoride for a couple of weeks and it went away. Tried going back to regular toothpaste and the pustules came right back.

for dd it was things like ranch dressing. It’s one of the ingredients. It’s pretty common in young children and she outgrew it.
