Hi all.

Myself and DD have had a very tough start to her life and to top it all off, she's now in hospital with Bronchiolitis.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience about the loss of appetite/fussiness around this virus. It's what we need to get back on track as she isn't tolerating many feeds and refusing the bottle oftentimes too.

We are on day 4 or 5 (not entirely sure - every day is a blur right now), so hoping that we might be turning a corner soon Halloween Confused

Hi, so sorry your poor DD is fighting this horrible virus 😞 what age is she?

My youngest had rsv bronchiolitis at 3 weeks old and was on high flow oxygen. Couldn't tolerate any milk feeds at all, not even 10mls tube fed, so he was on only a fluid drip for 2 days. Day 4 or 5 is usually the worst and then they rapidly get better. My son had pneumonia as well and needed very strong antibiotics by syringe driver.

They go downhill really quickly and it's so scary, but they also bounce back extremely quickly...DS went from high flow oxygen and no feeds to no oxygen at all and taking bottles himself within a day and a half. I couldn't believe it! We went home the evening of day 6 in hospital.

@TheSnailAndTheWaaaail she is 9 weeks old the poor wee thing. I'm so sorry about your experience! It is the hardest thing to watch them so ill.

Thankfully all of her obs are good. It's just her breathing is a bit erratic and her feeds are up and down. Hopefully now we will start to see an improvement!

Thank you Flowers

It sounds like you're likely over the worst of it now then..the feeds will improve soon hopefully!

It was a year ago we were in hospital now and I remember the dr saying it was a particularly bad strain that year and it wasn't following the same predictable pattern. But we got through it and DS has no lasting effects at all, he's rarely sick now.

@TheSnailAndTheWaaaail still here! Night 4 tonight. Oxygen levels are great but her breathing and eating just aren't there yet. Looking forward to getting over this hurdle, I'm glad your LO is rarely sick now. Long may that last Flowers

Fab about her oxygen sats! I became an expert at reading the machines while we were in, it was all I could do!

There was a baby in at the same time as us who was off oxygen much quicker than DS but his feeding was slow so they kept him in, think it was about 10 days for him. Every baby is different but it's best to just take your time and get everything in a good place before you go home xx

@veeolay yep these sats machines are becoming a good friend!

You're definitely right, much better to get her properly ready for home. Plus, it helps that there's always someone here ready to help! As you said every baby will be different
Thank you Flowers
