Has anyone used a cranial osteopath?

Our 15 week old (EBF) has frequent spells where he arches his back and cries and it sounds like he is in a lot of pain when it happens. The obvious things I’ve looked into is reflux (he does bring up some milk) and gas. I have considered trying gaviscon or omeprozole however have had mixed feedback from others on these.

Has anyone used a cranial osteopath? Our HV mentioned local mums in my area had positive feedback using one.

I took my second baby to one as he had difficulties feeding. He was born very quickly too. Turned out he had a lactose intolerance so very difficult to separate what was due to that and whether the cranial osteopathy had any real effect but I did feel better going! Where are you based?

I did, for my baby who screamed and was sick a lot. I wish I hadn’t fallen for it. I don’t think it made any difference, and as far as I know there isn’t any convincing evidence that it works. So I think it was a waste of time and money.

I did for ds2 who cried constantly. Seemed to help.

Yes, the Osteopathic Centre for Children in London. My DD now 27 had a nasty forceps delivery after a brow presentation. She literally just cried for the first 4 months of her life. In desperation I took her to the osteopath and it did help. She was also changed to soya formula by our GP.

My now adult DD also went to the Osteopathic Centre for Children, many years ago. She has CP and it helped her balance and coordination enormously. She always slept very well after a session and was peaceful and calm.

Both of my kids have been seen by a cranial osteopath. My eldest was diagnosed with glue ear and we saw one for that, as I wanted to avoid grommets and my youngest went when she was a newborn as we had problems with feeding. Helped massively on both occasions.

This. Wasted so much money as I was desperate

Many years ago a friend took their baby and it really helped. If you can afford it I'm sure it's worth a try.

Same here. What a scam.

Yes I took two of mine, they both had severe reflux and one had cmpa and torticollis (she was also under physio for this). Both of them cried so much & would only settle for short bursts. I found it helped enormously, they would be very relaxed for a couple of days after & the osteopath (2 different ones) taught me techniques on how to relax each baby. Borough both for about 6 to 8 sessions, I noticed a difference from the first sessions

Reading these replies with interest, I’m trying to avoid going done the medication route for his reflux so may try a one off appointment to see what happens

Hello, I’m wondering if there’s any update if u visited the osteopath? I’m considering it for my boy and would be interested to hear x

I've seen cranial osteopaths and taken kids to them. They can be absolutely excellent. Our local health visitors and GPs can refer to a scheme at a very good cranial osteopathy clinic here for free treatment if they can't afford it privately. The clinic are also working with the local hospital's chief midwife on avoiding tongue tie ops.

As with most things you need to find a really good one so try to get a recommendation.

Used CO for 3 of mine, one bad silent reflux it did not improve that at all but it improved her latch and help calm her the day of her actual treatment.

When a baby has silent reflux they are in agony so please don't withhold medical treatment for them.

Personally I found it a waste of time with no fundamental plan of action. Baby was sick and they suggested probiotics? I mean that's so basic
