18 month old reflux

Hello,

I just wondered if anyone’s toddlers still had some form of reflux?

My little boy is under a surgical team for previous gastro bleeds but they can’t really do much unless he presents again with similar symptoms (brown/black blood in sick).

My concern is that he is still having some ‘not so silent’ reflux. He doesn’t bring it up but throughout the day multiple times, you can hear it coming up into his mouth and swallowing it back down again.

Is this normal for an 18 month old or should I be contacting the doctor again?

Thank you in advance!

My 12 year old still had reflux at 18 months.

Forgot to add that it's less common at that age but I remember at the time a few people telling me that their toddlers still had it at that age too.

Did they get to the bottom as to what was causing his bleeds?
is he distressed with the reflux episodes?
im not sure if it would be worth exploring medication. Omeprazole worked wonders for our child. Albeit he was small when he was on it and off it before he was one.
but he did still get flares when he was cutting teeth

My 3.5yo still has reflux

@Antihistamine62 he doesn’t seem bothered by it so that’s good! They never got to the bottom of it, he’s had various hospital stays and endoscopies etc so he’s a bit of an anomaly at the moment.

Hes been on omeprazole since he was a few months old and it definitely helps! He’s on 20mg now.

Thank you for replying :)

My daughter is 3 and still has reflux. She is on omperazole domperidone and gaviscon. We have been under a general paediatrician since she was 4 months but we are just getting a referral for a gastro paediatrician.
Her reflux isn't controlled by the medication and she is really struggling with sleep and she has a small cavity and her dentist is worried about her teeth so he have to have fluoride treatments every 3 months and she will probably need a crown soon on her tooth.
She also has 20 food allergies and when she was a baby they triggered her reflux but they have been stable.
Up to age 2 her paediatrician used to say she would outgrow it by 6 months 1 year 18 months 2 years. Now he just says she will but he doesn't know when. I think the stats are that about 2% of children still have reflux at 2. A small number overall and not overly common but at the same time not super unusual

My 3yo still suffers with reflux, he was on gaviscon then omeprazole. We eventually weaned off omeprazole at around 2. But still if he has tomato based meals/eats too quickly or eats a rich meal I can hear him bring it up into his mouth to then swallow it back down. I find a small bowl of porridge after tea helps as it holds the reflux down xxx

@Superscientist Thanks for your reply!

Can I just ask about the allergies? Did you get this on the NHS or did you pay for private allergy testing? I feel like this is a route I want to explore but not sure the best way to do it.

thanks in advance!

My daughter has delayed allergies which means there are no reliable tests available. We got on top of her allergies with lots of food diaries and looking for patterns.
She reacted to me eating foods when I was breastfeeding so we identified a lot of them before weaning
