Possible long covid in 4 month old?

My baby had covid at 7 weeks and developed a blocked nose which we have not been able to shift no matter what we try - we have tried nasal spray, nasal drops, vapour rub, diffuser, being in a steamy room, sucking snot out (there is none to suck?!). He’s going to be 17 weeks on Tuesday and I am literally at my wits end with it. Every doctor or health visitor I have spoken to has said it’s that time of year and babies get colds - if he’s still feeding and has wet / dirty nappies there is nothing to worry about - but one for 10 weeks…is that common? I’ve had him with a cold for longer than not! He’s also now got a bad cough which has developed in the last 5 days and has started teething, so he’s an all round unhappy baby and I feel so so awful for him. It cannot be nice being unwell for so long and he’s so irritable, gets frustrated with most things very quickly, cries A LOT and it all just seems to suck for him.

anyone else’s baby had covid and still have issues 10 weeks on? Please tell me it gets better?!

This doesn't sound like how people usually describe "long COVID" symptoms. Persistent cough/cold/blocked nose are common after all respiratory viruses and unfortunately your child is in an age group where he could be getting one thing after another and those symptoms just sticking around.

It probably not COVID or a single cold and more a series of many colds.
As all colds are a new cold to a baby they can get more back to back colds whereas with an adult they might skip cold 2 and 5 as they had something very similar last year and the year before so we get more breaks between colds.

Thanks for the replies - here’s hoping he’s getting his 8 colds of the year out the way in one go! (Wishful thinking I know!!) - just was hoping there was something more I could do for him.

Cmpa causes nasal congestion.

When my daughter had similar when her daughter was about 9 months and her GP said that infants can pick up a new cold every 5 days!
My daughter is 3 and we probably have had a 5-6 week period of relentless snotty noses and colds every autumn/ winter. The first winter is by far the hardest!

What you’re describing can be very normal for many babies. I think what your GP said is fine.

If there's no snot, are you meaning that they are breathing through their mouth? Do they have any other symptoms of infection (not now, but in a the long Covid period)?

It could just be adenoidal and Covid drew attention to it?

If there is literally no snot, have you thought about any allergies? My daughter had cpma and was very nasally congested. Worth a thought
