DS (12) possible peroneal tendonitis - GP?

Last week, DS was playing football with DH and he kicked the ground as he went to kick the ball. DH said he had cried as it hurt but he rallied round. Next day he said it was still sore but wanted to go to football, DH said he had started limping during training but again, he seemed fine after a warm bath. DS has mentioned his foot being sore a couple of times but he hasn't been limping, hasn't been complaining excessively or asking for medicine, just saying things like "hope my foot doesn't hurt at football again" so I haven't been concerned. Football again tonight and he is limping. I've had a look and no obvious swelling. I've compared both feet and both seem the same but he is complaining of bad pain under his outer ankle joint and along the side of his foot to the little toe. Google suggested the peroneal tendons.
Is tendonitis something to go to the GP for? If it was me, I would rest, ice, take painkillers and hope for the best but I always worry more when it is one of the kids. Should I call the GP in the morning? I've already said no football for at least a week now. DS is happily playing online and chatting to friends so it isn't consuming his every thought but I'm concerned about doing more damage I suppose.

Any advice appreciated!

Yep that sounds like p T. He must rest. Completely. A physio can strap it up, see a good sports one who does ultrasound. It's an overuse injury

A Physio is best. They can advise how long to rest then how to ramp back up to playing. They can also advise on exercises to strengthen any perceived weaknesses that could cause recurrence.

Definitely rest. I fucked mine up big time by ignoring it and five years on and multiple surgeries later I’m still in pain and limping. The gp might refer for some nhs physio but ime you get what you pay for. Private might be better.

I did that as a teenager (kicked the ground not the ball), fractured a metatarsal. Given he's still experiencing pain it's probably worth getting it looked at

Thanks everyone, I will call the GP this morning. I need an appt for myself anyway so I'll add him on with me and then go from there re: physiotherapy!
